Let's phrase this a different way. If Diaz had been literally frozen when Messi makes that dribble cut, Messi would still collide with him. Diaz has the right to exist in that spot.

Also, Messi has zero chance of beating the keeper to the ball, his touch was way too heavy.

But Diaz wasn't frozen to the ground. He didn't play the ball either. If he had gone for the ball at all, then maybe you have a case. He doesn't go for the ball and he turns into Messi to make sure he gets him.

And where the ball goes is largely irrelevant (it shouldn't be, but the way refs call the game it is). They give out PKs on balls that dudes lunge for and basically kick out of bounds just so they can beat the keeper to the ball and then trip over the keeper's arms.

If any team should feel aggrieved over a red card, it's Argentina.

Just now saw the highlights of Iceland/England. Can't believe England only scored on a really soft penalty.

I turned the game on when it was already 2-1. I can't believe England mounted enough pressure to even draw a foul. They were dreadful.

That is one article where it absolutely pays to read the comments.

Having followed Jurgen Klinsmann through his storied career as manager of the USA side, I cannot recommend him enough to England. Jurgen has taught the American game many things, from the power of motivational speakers who can rend telephone books to the incredible effectiveness of using guaranteed World Cup spots to lure inept teenagers from other nations into being inept teenager for our nation. I have deep and proven confidence in Herr Klinsmann doing just as much for renowned Albion as he has done for us loserville Yanks. If you thought that all the good stuff Roy Hodgson provided was a bright pleasure, well, then, be prepared for a taste of sweet and radiant fire unlike you have ever seen before....if but in Jurgen you Trust.

So who do you think is the source of these "rumors" of Jurgen to Southampton or England or anywhere but here?

Is it Sunil trying to get rid of him? Or maybe trying to prop him up in a "see, other people want him too" kind of thing? Is it Jurgen/his agent trying to get more job security somehow? Is it some other source within the USSF? Or is it people dumb enough to think he would actually be a good hire?

According to Swedish news site Aftonbladet 99.8% of Iceland's (remaining) population watched the game.

That means that about 650 individuals weren't.

It is possible, he might be successful in a different situation.

Yes, maybe. Thing is, he's nowhere near the best qualified man for the job and he's only a candidate because they're stupid.

England's biggest weakness as a soccer country is how insular and ignorant of everything that happens outside of their bubble they are. The fact that they think he's a good candidate because "look at the great things he's done with the US" says it all.

Bayern - unmitigated horsefeathers show disaster.

Toronto FC Technical Director - see above.

USMNT - on balance, no progress and no regression. A total "meh" with nothing but spin, lies and arrogance to season the completely bland meal he's cooking.

Germany 2006 - criminally underrated going into the tournament. That team had plenty of talent including some legends like Kahn, Ballack, Klose, Scweiny and Lahm. He gets way too much credit for finishing third at home.

Despite failing to guide the team to this year's Olympic football tournament, as well as missing out on London 2012, Klinsmann took USA to glory in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Was just reading your comment yesterday about England being an insular country and their ignorance, and then I read this quote, too perfect.

There's enough smoke out there to tell me that Jurgen is anywhere from open to leaving USMNT to actively trying to depart, even if it is all coming from England. For him it makes sense, he can say he left on a high note by finishing 4th in Copa, even if we were the host country and there are many statistics that show we played rather poorly for the entire tournament.

Especially since he was feeling the heat before the tournament...he may feel like a strong performance is the perfect time to try to get out while the gettin is good.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/28/who-should-be-the-next-england-manager-telegraph-football-writer/

If in doubt and a state of complete and utter hopelessness, call in a German. Klinsmann has plenty of experience in international tournament football with Germany and United States, authority, an infectious personality, winning mentality, an understanding of English football - it's good, bad and ugly sides - and will represent a giant leap forward in tactical terms, a perennial English failure.

Couple things.

First, every recent England manager should sue that person for defamation for implying Jurgen is more tactially astute than them. That's offensive. That's insulting.

Second, Fabio horsefeathering Capello was your coach when the US hired Jurgen. A man who ticks every one of the above boxes (except maybe infectious personality) and is ACTUALLY a tactical expert. If he couldn't done, I'm not sure who will.

This is some of the dumbest analysis I've ever read. What possesses these people to have hot coaching takes re: a man who's teams they've never watched is beyond me.

Apologies to our guy, wvcbxl, but I'm psyched about this Wales win.

They can totally take Portugal. Get to a final and see what happens. And if Portugal wins? We get CR7 in an international final. Win-win.

Aaron Ramsey will miss the semi due to yellow card accumulation.

If they're going to make it so a player has to go through 5 matches without getting 2 yellow cards simply to make it so guys don't get a yellow in the QF and SF and miss the final, at least make it 3.

No matter how hard I try I just can't like him. Would prefer to see him lose. Lets get a Wales v Iceland Final.

No need to apologize, Wales is a fun team to watch and, as I said, deserved that win.

I really would like to see a Wales vs Iceland final now. 8-)
