Simmons is starting a new site, The Ringer, sometime in the Spring/Summer. Taking a lot of ex-Grantlander's with him. From the looks of who is all on board currently it appears it will be more pop culture/TV/movie/music related than sports related.

[expletive], I hate it when Derwood is right.

Lucky for you it doesn't happen often

That's my favorite 30 For 30 and it's not even close

Reading these posts back to back just made me laugh out loud.

They did...here's the cached article if anyone is interested.

Recovery, if there is any, appears to be something deserved only by the victims of a man whose belief in his innocence will apparently be, like the way he once pursued his dream of playing in the NFL, unrelenting, despite all evidence to the contrary.

I stopped reading about halfway through.

Can't wait for "Hey, OJ serially abused his wife and then brutally murdered her and another man because: CTE."

In a statement published more than an hour after the story was deleted, SB Nation editorial director Spencer Hall writes,

“The publication of this story represents a complete breakdown of a part of the editorial process at SB Nation. There were objections by senior editorial staff that went unheeded. It was tone-deaf, insensitive to the victims of sexual assault and rape, and wrongheaded in approach and execution. There is no qualification: it was a complete failure.”

It starts off with expressions of full sympathy for Holtzclaw, hinting that perhaps there are two sides to this story. It tells only one. The side based in reality—that Holtzclaw violated and brutalized at least eight poor, black women and is in jail for the rest of his life—is never given more than cursory attention.

It gets real horsefeathering messy with race. Holtzclaw’s beat was “a dangerous assignment that regularly brought him in contact with people and lifestyles with which he had little prior experience.” It speaks of tension “between members of Eastern Michigan’s football program and locals within the Ypsilanti community.” It notes that Holtzclaw had a “number of black friends.”

It repeatedly portrays the victims as having had “troubled pasts”—eliding the fact that Holtzclaw used his power as a cop to obtain sex in exchange for promising to let them off on minor offenses. Somewhat incredibly, this attempt to humanize Holtzclaw succeeds only in dehumanizing his victims.

Yeah, but it's not some hack sportswriter doing it. It's the guy that discovered CTE saying he thinks OJ probably has it.

I don't doubt almost any football players has/had it; it very well could have contributed to what he did, but he also demonstrated a clear and all too typical escalating pattern of violence minus any self-harm (then or since). It's obviously still a field without a lot of understanding, but he fits a lot more into the patterns of domestic abusers/murderers than someone who lashes out because of CTE.

And to tie it in to the big head discussion:

Another indicator for Omalu is the size of Simpson's head. Dave Hojnowski, who was a longtime Bills equipment manager, told NFL.com in 2011 that Simpson had "a big huge head" and had to wear a custom-sized 8¼ helmet as manufacturers during that time didn't make anything over 7¾.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN, JUICE.

Random, but speaking of tiny faces and large heads...

My friend that has a giant face too large for his head (his mouth covers about 70% of his head)

posted a selfie he got with tinyface Rizzo at a charity event and the stark contrast between the large and tiny faces so close together just about sent me permanently cross eyed.

Marginally sports related, but for the umteenth time the Tribune is changing their web model

I got this email from them:

Thank you for being a registered user of chicagotribune.com. We're contacting you regarding a change to our premium article policy, and to extend a special opportunity to enjoy unlimited access.

Starting February 1‌8, 20‌16 we are transitioning to a usage-based model on our site and apps. As a visitor you can now read any 10 free articles each month. We have removed our premium indicator so that you can choose whichever stories interest you most.

So basically you won't be able to use the workaround where you google the name of the article and click the google news link anymore. Previously, people who found Trib articles through search engines could view for free. Now everyone who visits the site from any source will get 10 free articles to read per month.

I'm guessing clearing your cookies will reset the 10 article limit.

It's no surprise she jumped ship and moved to FOX. There was zero reason to make her do that interview

But that move didn't hurt ESPN any, it only hurt her (at least career-wise). Love it or hate it, ESPN is the sports media king, and Fox is the bottom rung. Nobody is watching FS1.

I haven't had any issue still using the Google workaround

She does national FOX broadcasts too, right? She's not relegated to FS1
