Adding onto this, the last horsefeathers glove corner outfielder to be a real MVP consideration is probably Jose Bautista? Like you have to be an absolutely incredible hitter to be *THAT* valuable when your defensive value is so limited.

I feel like I'm the only one actually looking at Eloy's performances in pro ball right now rather than going with some generalization of. He's been that! At 20-22 the guy put up something like .335/.385/.570 with a 16% K rate and 26 HRs in 551 PAs between AA and AAA. That is incredible hitting!

I read this situation as some Cubs fans over correcting for overrating Schwarber as a prospect

Schwarber had a 1.022 OPS across AA and AAA at age 22. He hit 16 HRs in 310 PAs, which is a pace of 28.5 for 551 PAs. Schwarber did have an unsustainable BABIP of around .390-.400 though. He then came up and put up a .842 OPS in the majors at 22. Jimenez has a .798 OPS so far this year in around 80 less PAs. K rates are basically the same in the majors at 28-29% and Schwarber nearly walked twice as often.

People might be underrating Eloy but it seems like you might be underrating what Schwarber did in the minors and before he blew out his knee. And to be fair, we'll never know how much, if at all, that affected Schwarber's development.

Agree with all this but on the bolded part we know it cost him the ability to catch ever again. He was never going to be great there, but even as a 30-50 start a year catcher that bat would have been incredibly valuable there and coming up as a prospect we didn't need him to hit like Eloy has to, to carry a good amount of value because of the position.

The rest of the season ZIPs projections have him hitting 15 home runs in 288 PAs, with a .281/.332/.517 slash line. That slugging would be 41st in baseball, 20th in terms of 2018 results. Do you agree with those numbers as a fair assessment for his abilities? Because that plays out, with his defense, as 1 WAR for those 288 PAs, which gives you about 2.5ish WAR over a full season. And that might be aggressive, given his injury history.

You guys can argue over how valuable Eloy will become and how much value he loses on defense and all that...

I'll always like Eloy now because of this goofy gif that reminds me of Forrest Gump:

Jimenez was done with AA and AAA by 22, having run through the levels at 20 and 21. He was only in the minors for his age 21 and some of his age 22 seasons because teams manipulate service time and openly tank in this proud era of baseball.

Schwarber was a year older at the same level. It’s not like there was a 3-4 year age difference.

And Eloy this year is the same age as Schwarber was in 2015 when he got called up. So far, BA and SLG are essentially the same but Schwarber has 45 points of OBP on Eloy. Both struck out at 28%.

You might end up being right. Eloy might end up being a way better hitter than Schwarber. But he hasn’t been so far in the majors at the same age and when he was a year younger in AA and AAA, their numbers were probably pretty similar, when you adjust Schwarber’s BABIP down.

Clearly the dude forgot the score as opposed to how many outs there were, so I guess it was fitting that a game both was reported by a botched tweet:

Alright, we gotta vote Almora everyday. Make him a starter over Yelich. Acuna/Almora/Bellinger

wait, what the hell am i looking at here?

They did a primary thing for positions. So like top 3 vote getters at every position got cut down to a final vote and the winners start. Since there’s 3 OF spots there’s 9 guys. Time to vote Acuna, Bellinger Almora as the starting OF for the NL and horsefeathers Yelich. Because it would be hilarious to have Almora beat Yelich out. Hopefully every other of our meaningful guys get voted out at other positions and get the ASG as rest.

Looking at our All Star finalists shows we don't need no stinking Harper and Machado.

bellinger and yelich have been bonds this season, and yet i look up the leaders in fwar and mike horsefeathers trout is still at the top

His extension makes me so sad. Possibly the greatest player of our generation, forever mired in 4th place. Trout and Ohtani deserve better

Actually the Angels are stacking up quite the farm system led by a guy on the shortlist for best prospect in baseball (Jo Adell)

I think this year's team could be weird good if they get a healthy Simmons back and trade for like Smoak, Giles, and Stroman from the Blue Jays or something

I hope they improve, as Trout deserves all the good things. It's a daunting task, however, in a division with a stacked (and still fairly young) Astros team and a competitive A's team, plus young and good teams in Tampa and Minnesota, AND stacked and rich teams in Boston and New York.

houston isn't going to stay stacked forever, especially pitching wise. they're going to lose one elite ace to age pretty soon, and then they'll either lose cole this offseason or have to pay him crazy money.
