I dont know if its been discussed already but isn't it like...highly inappropriate to announce a hiring when the guy youre hiring is about to coach in the World Series for a different team? I mean, Boston already announced that its a 3 year contract with Cora. Id be pretty pissed if i was about to coach in the world series and every one of my players knew I had already agreed to go manage in Boston.

i can't imagine anyone on the astros is a big enough horsefeathers to be anything but happy for their bench coach getting a managerial job.

nah, it's not inappropriate for a coach to get a bigger gig announced with a different team before finishing up with his old team in the world series.

I mean, not necessarily. I guess if it was me I just wouldnt want the appearance that I'm not 100% in. I personally would not like it, but that doesnt make it wrong. I guess its clear that there isnt a rule against signing a coach who is about to be coaching a WS, so I was basically asking if they were violating an unwritten rule. Is there any recent precedent? I cant remember seeing it happen before.

Can't remember the last time it happened in baseball. In the NFL last year, and in the NBA in 2016, Shannahan and Walton were hired to the surprise of absolutely no one the day after their respective teams lost in the SB/finals. Is that situation any better/different?

When Buddy Ryan was hired by the Eagles just prior to Super Bowl XX, it was looked as being a bellwether for things to come. The tension between Ditka and Ryan (who never really liked each other) was very evident leading up to 1985. Getting to the Super Bowl finally and losing 1/2 of the coaching genius who got you there was s big deal.

 

That being said, i thing coordinators have a larger effect on games in the NFL then in MLB. And Ryans impending departure didn’t bother the Bears D one bit in that game
