I love that Pace is cleaning up Emery's mess. I do wonder if he's making these evaluations too quickly but I'm willing to give him the benefit of doubt until he fucks up royally.

too quickly? It's almost October. They had all summmer/preseason/3 games. None of these guys are surprising to see gone. Most of them were considered likely to be released if not for certain contract situations.

True. I guess I'm used to our management sticking with their recent draft picks/free agents way past their expiration date even if its clear that there isn't much there. But Pace has the luxury of cutting bait since they aren't his picks, and was able to get at least some value from Allen and Bostic.

yeesh. remember last year when there was this optimism that Bostic would be good LB, Fuller was the lockdown CB, Vereen a starter at safety, Jennings set at starter for a couple of years. a year later and the back 7 is in rough shape.

oh, yeah. the offense fell off a cliff as well.

Also we traded up to get Vereen. I think it was two fifths or a fifth and a sixth...

So suddenly, like another 10% of Emerys picks have their fate sealed as failures. Honestly though it was a bit surprising to begin with that only one guy got axed in the regime change.

From the Trib coverage.

Vereen began training camp with the first-string defense. Coach John Fox said he liked Vereen's cover skills coming out of Minnesota during the 2014 pre-draft process.

...

He was blocked near the point of attack on the Seahawks' 105-yard kickoff return for a touchdown Sunday, and tight end Jimmy Graham beat him on a 30-yard touchdown reception.

...

Prosinski, a fourth-round pick out of Wyoming in 2011, is known for his ability to run. He left the Jaguars last year on an injury settlement related to a biceps issue. He finishes 2014 with the Eagles and was cut after the preseason. He has played 56 games with nine starts and has 27 special teams tackles.

The Jaguars waived Reynolds on Saturday to clear a roster spot. He had 18 special teams tackles, along with three starts over the last three seasons with the team. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia.

Should still one more roster addition. Would be interesting to see if they still like Vereen enough to try and develop him on the practice squad, but just couldn't waste the active roster spot.

i still think when Lovie and Martz parted ways, that was the end of the Bears. so stupid, before Cutler got hurt, the bears were 7-3 and one of the best teams in football, people were talking about them being at the top of the power rankings, they were a force. Cutler goes down and the Bears nearly lose out. But that wasn't Martz's fault, that was Hanie's fault for being terrible, it was no one's fault, maybe Johnny Knox's for being bad at standing up.

Dear Lord, that was the beginning of the end, that game against San Diego, the shark was jumped. But why fire Martz? makes no sense to me, [expletive] was working.

Doesn't matter. We were doomed when we stopped being able to draft and develop talent top to bottom. The pending doom was there. They held onto Angelo too long while he wasted a few more drafts and then hired a guy who couldn't reverse the trend.

Well that doom began when Lovie started having more input into the drafting/personnel decisions, which began after the Super Bowl loss.

i think Lovie always had input. Angelo drafted speed, acquired speed, did whatever he could to give Lovie his coveted speed.

But Lovie had more direct official input beginning in 2007, the Dan Bazuin draft.

Any coach does. But after the Superbowl, Lovie got more power. The Bears were victims of their own success. They turned mid round picks and castoffs into key players on a Superbowl team. And then they thought that was all they needed to do, and either missed out on or blatantly traded away early picks (granted a couple were for Cutler) because they thought the scheme was good enough to just find players that fit instead of finding the most talented players.

Cutler is practicing. Thank God.

Alshon too.

Sutton practiced too, thought for sure he had a torn biceps.

I swear I saw him back in the game after the injury? Looked awful on replay.
