Recipe for success: best offensive player available in round 1 next 2 drafts, defensive picks rounds 2-4. Bpa after that.

There's almost nothing to sell. Plus football doesn't work that way.

No, the way football works is you have to lose more or better FA than you sign and collect comp picks. But you have to develop surplus talent to do that, so instead we'll just sell off players we wish were leaving as FAs anyways.

Yeah, i don't get it. Why sell off your good players for nothing? Neither Forte nor Bennett are close to done.

The Bears will basically have two top 10 picks hitting the field next year. Spend your later picks on speed. Assuming Cutler will be back, it's not a stretch to think they can compete offensively if they have White/Jeffery/Bennett catching passes, and Long + best OT available bookending your tackle positions.

The way football works is you get a franchise QB and you're fine for a decade +.

Or you could find an incompetent HC, surround him with idiots, sell off all of your older good players, go 0-16 the year before a fantastic QB prospect and #1 pick hits the draft and then hire a great staff who wants the chance to coach him.

To this point, Long hasn't shown enough that we should keep him at Tackle. So we may need two bookends.

Anyways re: Forte there is definitely some question if you want to commit another big deal to him, so that would be that reasoning. If you do want him after this year is start exploring an extension, cuz I don't want him to hit the open market (though you could play the franchise tag game again with him).

Bennet I don't see a reason to trade.

Well there's many ways in which football works, so both these statements are true.

Forgot Forte was a FA. But Long has been playing without a hand this year. I'm really fine with Langford, he seems good enough.

Tunsil and Johnstone with picks 1 and 2, move Long back to guard, maybe let Grasu have a shot at starting at center. That could be your line, give or take an LG, for a very long time, and could be good as early as next season. Go speed on defense with the rest of your picks. Sign Jeffery long-term, let Forte walk. The problem is that Bushrod may be your best OL this season, so what do you do with him? Keep him? Cut him?

Without him, you still probably have a line that can protect Cutler.

QB - Cutler

RB - Langford

WR - Jeffery, White, Royal

Line - Tunsil, Slauson, Grasu, Long, Johnstone

TE - Bennett

but as for predictions, Cutler plays, the Bears win by 10.

i'd definitely trade forte for whatever they can get right now. no interest in re-signing him.

what's more is that there could be a market for him. i've seen the cowboys have possibly contacted the bears. he's very good in pass protection and could help keep Romo upright when he comes back.

Isn't he actually overrated in pass protection or am I remembering wrong

This would seem to indicate that he gives up the second most pressure but also stays in to block the second most frequently in the league. He didn't stand out on blitz protection and so I think the overall story is that he's just okay at best in this department.

concur

I wouldn't trade him for "whatever they can get". I'm thinking something like a 4th and 6th would be his ceiling in a trade. Maybe you could get a 3rd if that team re-signs him like right away. I also wonder what the next contract Forte gets will be. He's a good RB, but I don't think he's elite. He won't get DeMarco Murray money (5/$40M), but should get much more than Gore (3/$12M). If the Bears don't go crazy with a big FA signing, he could get the Bears a 3rd or 4th round comp pick. Of course, if they lose Jeffery, they could get a slew of picks, but those picks wouldn't be until 2017. I'd probably take the picks now, if they could get them.

good point, I concur on trading him now, not if all they get is another 6 (but one more 6 will allow them to move up into the 5th!)

Why do I think Belichick is going to turn Bostic into a star?

Good talent around him. Good system to grow in to. Continuity.

Much better at developing talent than we are.

It's possible.

yeesh. remember last year when there was this optimism that Bostic would be good LB, Fuller was the lockdown CB, Vereen a starter at safety, Jennings set at starter for a couple of years. a year later and the back 7 is in rough shape.

oh, yeah. the offense fell off a cliff as well.
