This series will go a long way toward determining home field in the wild card game and will also be the weekend we clinch. Dong away, dongsmiths. And pitch us to victory, dong preventers.

Obviously sweeping would be optimal and would either put us ahead by 0.5 games or behind 0.5 games but we're not completely out of it even if we win 2 of 3 with Pittsburgh having a series with St Louis while we play Cincinnati

I guess it depends on your Hammel thoughts if you consider that a bullpen game.

lol...Haren being skipped because of the off day.

 

This will scare the [expletive] out of most but apparently Maddon said that he wouldn't rule out a "bullpen day" in game 2 of the NLDS if we advance.

"Bullpen day" can easily mean, say, starting off with Hendricks, pulling him after 3, letting Hamel go a couple and then Wood a couple. Works for me.

 

I don't think Hendricks and Hammel would pitch on the same bullpen day.

Also worth noting that they are 6-10 against the Reds, who they play in their final series.

Just an update to show where we stand on this (and posting it here since Fred would probably lock it if I bumped the game thread it's from)

 

Every baseball team is a ragtag group of misfits.

 

And Castro is gonna end up being more valuable this season than Soler.

 

Starlin is at 0.5 fWAR (in 142 games) currently

 

Soler is at 0.3 fWAR (in 95 games)

 

Obviously not an attempt at a gotcha or anything. Just remembered this exchange and figured I'd look into it since they've both been playing well lately.

 

Starlin is buoyed a bit by positional value (although in UZR he grades about the same as a 2B as he did at SS, a slight negative) while Soler's is bringing his down a good amount.

I can't answer this question, but based on the other thread, I'm pretty sure he went hobo and jumped on a freight train to get home. While hammered.
