Cy Morton.

Dude...he's given up three runs in four innings so far.

Five runs in five innings.

The 3rd starter would only have to start 1 game in the 5 game series anyway right? (and 7 game)

It's been so long since we've been in this situation that I forgot how these things work scheduling wise

I know the Cubs used 4 starters in the NLDS in 2003 but we had 4 acceptable options.

Lester would definitely pitch twice, Arrieta only once so that leaves 2 games. Either the third starter pitches twice, Jake comes back on 2 days rest or we use a 4th starter

In all seriousness. If the playoffs started today who is the Cubs 3rd starter?

Who you would choose, not necessarily who Maddon would choose

I know someone earlier mentioned a bullpen game in Game 2 of the NLDS. And that's actually not the craziest idea ever. We have a bunch of former starters that are playing up a little out of the pen with increased velocity. What's wrong with letting Hendricks and Hammel piggybacking with Richard/Cahill/Wood? Let them all go through the line-up once. Keep the opposing hitters off-balance.

The thing that is wrong with that is playoffs eliminate the september call-up depth and if you use 5 guys in one game you can easily run into trouble with just one other extra inning game that series.

well the one game playoff kinda throws that off for the nlds...

i know that in the nlcs in 03 we went 4 deep

zambrano, prior, wood, clement, zambrano, prior, wood, IIRC

That Rizzo bomb was ridiculous. Not even a strike. Awesome.

Maybe that's why he's been swinging at a bunch of down and in garbage lately? Because he know he's good at hitting that pitch if it's not in the dirt?

To expand on that

Wed - Arrieta

Fri - Lester (game 1)

Sat - 3rd starter

Mon - Arrieta

Tue - Lester on 3 days rest or 4th starter

Can't remember if there's a day off before game 5

If there isn't Wed - Either Lester or 3rd starter on 3 days rest or 4th starter. If it's Thu it's Lester or 3rd starter on normal rest

did zambrano give up more HR in game 1 of the NLCS than he did all year?

(i know he didn't but it was pretty close)

EDIT - he gave up 9 HR all season in 2003... 3 in game one (and one more in game 5)
