Fruit yeah. Won't be surprised when someone from the pen (Motte, I assume early on) gets DL'd in favor of Edwards Jr. if/when the Cubs make the playoffs.

I believe Motte is already on the DL

i still can't get excited about calling up a reliever. maybe if the [expletive] left him as a starter....

Take a look at what K-Rod did for the Angels in the playoffs as a rookie and then get back to me.

David Price for Joe Maddon in his rookie year

Guess who was on that coaching staff that made that gutsy call to bring up K-Rod?

It's so weird that he was Scioscia's bench coach.

The only difference being that David Price and Francisco Rodriguez weren't walking 17 guys per 9 innings.

In Edwards' favor Rodriguez gave up the same number of HRs during his 2002 minor league season that Edwards has during his whole minor league career, Edwards was harder to hit (4.8 H/9), and he piled up K's at a similar rate.

I mean, I like Edwards being up for those reasons. He's certainly intriguing as an extra pen arm. But, it's kinda silly to suggest that he can do what those two did when he has a BB% of 17.7% in the minors this year.

I don't think anyone thinks he's on Price's or K-Rod's level but there is a reason to be excited about him as a reliever coming up. We have no clue what he can do.

Doesn't his already being on the 40 man roster make him post season eligible without having to play the DL?

Have to be on the ML roster before September 1 IIRC

That rule changed, anyone on the 40 man on August 31 is eligible, no DL chicanery needed.

Very excited to see what Edwards can do in MLB. If he can remotely throw strikes he'll be a dominant reliever.
