Just thinking about late game defense with Schwarber hopefully out there and Soler... being Soler.

They haven't been pulling Soler for better or worse, and Denorfia is still there as a defensive replacement. Nothing lost by sending Szczur down today.

do you think Lester will strangle Coghlan on the field for the inevitable defensive mishap, or will he wait until they reach the clubhouse like a gentleman

I think Lester will get mad when Ross throws to 2nd and Coghlan misses the throw and it goes into CF, advancing the runner to 3rd with no outs. However all will be forgiven when Cogs comes through with good hit or 2

Starlin is being benched? Nice.

I hope he never plays again this year besides pinch hitter. lol

If Coghlan is worried about Lester paying attention to him, he should just lead off first base.

I don't really understand why the FO wouldn't want to bring Javy up ASAP. There are several positives to bringing young mister Baez up:

1. Extra infield body to give any of Castro, Russell, or Bryant a day off. (Without putting freaking Coghlan in the infield as a starter)

2. Potentially superior to Castro right [expletive] now.

3. Adds a right handed power bat to play around with, which is something that we have very little of at the moment considering Bryant's struggles and Soler's low slugging numbers this year.

4. Let the guy come up and be a part of this wave of player's first playoff hunt. With each meaningful game and big win that these young guys get together, there is chemistry developed and a sense of camaraderie that I have to imagine will affect seasons to come. Get Javy up here and let him be a part of that.

I feel that if the alternative is having spots on the active roster filled by Sczcur or Baxter, we might as well call in the best player we've got in AAA for this run. Especially one who definitely has Major League talent and who has made tangible, productive adjustments since struggling a year ago.

I think Javy is going to be traded for a TOR controllable arm and they dont want to ruin his trade value any more than it was last year.

He has had alot of wiffs too lately.

presumably because they think he should get the extra 3 weeks or so of development at AAA.

Hoyer's quotes in the paper today mention they want Baez to actually have an extended chance to play at a level and get in a groove, and to me that makes sense for a couple reasons.

Number 1 it's really true, Baez has had a very unordinary year between his sister's death and his injury, he hasn't even played in 50 games this year and in both cases he had to pretty much stop baseball activities for weeks. This wasn't a hamstring pull that lingered.

They can get away with this first and foremost because Baez has no floor at the moment, so he's no guarantee to be better than anyone at the MLB level right now. His 33% K rate since getting back to Iowa doesn't exactly paint a picture of someone ready to step in and contribute in the immediate term.

The other reason is roster considerations. Waiting until September isn't much of a sacrifice at this point, especially since La Stella looks like he'll be available as infield depth within a week. (And yes they'll bring him up in September, earning his playing time and otherwise sitting is not going to materially impact his trade value).

Castro has been horrible and with La Stella hurt and Alcantara disappointing there aren't a ton of other options, but a lot of the Baez demand seems to be change for the sake of change. I'm hopeful he can make adjustments, but he hasn't had a normal season and the current results don't paint the picture of a MLB caliber hitter, so there's no rush to have him in Chicago right now.

I would think telling Castro something like that would mean the professional relationship between him and the organization is more likely coming to an end soon? (Not that his trade value could be any lower)

This is a good point but they have a couple guys on the bench.

No he will make a strong logical argument that his personal catcher striking out with RISP had a bigger impact on the game
