I just wanted to point out that this move officially makes us buyers for the first time in 6 years. :cray: (that's supposed to be a happy cry)

So technically we get to do something fun, but we do it in the most boring, stupid, meaningless way possible while all the other teams get to do it better?

The Epstein Way.

Is it difficult to jerk off with such a small penis, or do you just use your thumb and forefinger

Easier. A lot less stress on the wrist.

Jesus, Kyle. Surely you can be better than this.

The Cubs are in the playoff race and after several years of being told we'd be aggressive when we're competitive, it's looking like we may get a 1-WAR fifth starter while every other NL contender got more. If that's how it plays out, I think disappointment is in order.

Thanks! It's been going better lately.

He's totally right.

Going to be very disappointed if nothing of note gets done. THIS is when you need to add guys and take risks to improve your chances.

Disagree. And Kyle is being a meatball. The Cubs haven't wavered from their long term approach. Why trade assets for what's likely at best a 1 game playoff type of season? Let the young hitters develop, especially in their first season and come back next year with the window then being wide open. I wouldn't want to sell the farm for Price (who's likely a FA anyway after this year) or Hamels. Save the assets to either develop or trade for a #1 starter once the window for winning a title is clearly open.

Because opportunities to win championships are sacred and the best way to win a championship is to get as many of those opportunities as possible. When you are borderline to make a playoff spot, that is when you look to cement it (or increase your odds at least) by going for it, not when you have a division locked up or whatever. The window is open right now because the team is contending for the playoffs in late July right hte [expletive] now.

Why the hell would you think it makes more sense to make deadline moves when the team is much better?

It's bonkers the number of people here who just assume the Cubs are going to be dominating AND somehow making huge trades at the deadline because...reasons?

If Kyle is being a meatball your statement is being an imbecile. It is an incredibly stupid sentiment.

Holy hell Haren's peripherals are terrifying, just got around to looking at them..6.14 k/9, .248 BABIP, 82.6 LOB%, only 31% GB rate

Yeah, and you can fit about 10 Wrigley Fields into Marlins Park. He's better than Richard and we gave up two non-prospects, but I'm pretty bummed about this.

My reaction to this, when I first read about it, was okay. It's depth, likely an upgrade (albeit how significant is a fair question) to consistently trotting out Beeler/Wada/Wood and so forth, so okay. It's a seller's market, so getting a rental at the cost of Ivan Pineyro, I can live with it.

This was a strong seller's market, IMO (based on some of the major trades that were done), and some teams didn't pull the trigger on trades for one reason or another. I was always okay with a rental, and while Haren was never at the top of my list of guys I wanted, it's likely to be an upgrade that helps the push this year, and the cost wasn't great.

They needed to make some moves, if only as "show me" moves to their key youngsters that also clears out some upper level depth that lack significant futures with the club. They did that. Okay. Not exciting, but okay.

Nope. They're looking to keep their young prospects and allow them to develop with time. Why sell the farm for a rental or an older vet that has a 2-4 year shelf life? That's completely reasonable to me.

All of them?

That's...weird.

And prospects get traded for players who are only going to give you "2-4 years" of production because most of the time those 2-4 years is a lot more than you'll get from most prospects.
