Whoa... the first couple times I saw this thread, I assumed it was the old one.

I'm really rooting for Schwarber to get his [expletive] together behind the plate. I've always been a fan of catchers that can hit. Anytime you can squeeze an extra bat into the lineup, that's a good thing. Considering we already have the pitchers hitting in the NL, it would be nice to not have two automatic outs in the lineup. If he could just become an average catcher, that would be lovely.

My feelings exactly. I wouldn't be mad if he ended up Mike piazza jr.

What seems to be ignored in this discussion is how much Teagarden and Ross suck.

I vote Schwaber to catch as much as possible until Ross comes back.

Hell, in off hours, have him take grounders at 3B to see if he can play there with Bryant in CF when Lester pitches.

But I may change my opinion when I'm sober.

So is Maddon going to have the 2-5 spots in the lineup like this which is pretty darn sexy and break up the lefties and righties or most likely bat him lower in the order like before?

Rizzo

Bryant

Schwarber

Soler

With as terrible as Castro is now, I hope Joe bats him in that range.

It doesn't overly matter, but I imagine they'll start Schwarber below Coghlan and then move him up as he hits. So Fowler/Rizzo/Bryant/Coghlan/Soler/Schwarber/Castro/P/Russell

From what I saw of Schwarbs at the Futures game he seems to have a good leadership attitude and outgoing personality. That's something you can't teach and wouldn't it be great to have that leader behind the plate for years to come. Catching is pretty hard and I'm all for him getting experience up here. He seems real eager to learn and I'm sure he'll get help from Montero and Ross. As to playing left also, Yogi Berra had a wonderful career catching and playing the OF.

Send everyone for ring sizing

I think you meant send everyone for NL Central champs shirt/hat sizing so we can watch them go 3-and-out against the Cardinals in the NLDS.

I am pretty sure he did not mean that.

4 of the next 5 games, the Cubs face RHP--the only one that they don't is Saturday's game that would have been the Ross game anyway (Lester pitching). Schwarber better be starting all 4 of those games somewhere on the field. BOOM!

These days are over. It's over. [expletive] the Cardinals. Lick a dick punks. Step the [expletive] aside. They are going to swoon in the second half. Pixie dust crop was spoiled with fungus. Tough [expletive]. Eat a micturated upon cockroach egg infested semi-soft fecal loaf Cardinals. It's over. Birdies all fall down.

Wonder if Schwarber being called up is a bit of a tryout/showcase for other teams to see how MLB ready he may be at catcher. Him being able to be serviceable at catcher right now improves his trade value. Not suggesting he be traded, but it would give other teams (and the Cubs) and idea of where he is.

If this is a showcase, then all of the AL teams might be drooling.

Schwarber isn't going anywhere.. That bat at catcher is elite. That bat anywhere is elite. Watching him hit, he could end up being our best hitter.

So how much might Schwarber's development at catcher be stunted if he stayed with the Cubs the rest of the year playing left field and then went back to catching next spring?
