Baseball was introduced to Japan in the 19th Century and they've had organized play for about 95 years.

Baseball was introduced to Cuba in the 19th Century and they've had organized play for almost 140 years.

Baseball was introduced to the DR at the tail end of the 19th Century and they've had organized play for over 100 years.

But yeah, the game has only "opened up in the last 10-15 years." Bud Norris can go [expletive] himself.

but its our american dollars...

And that lead me to this...

...which quotes an anonymous American pitcher/dumbass who spent one year playing overseas saying this:

When I was in Taiwan it was acceptable. If you hit the next batter, you were automatically ejected, and if you hit the guy who hit the home run his next at-bat, you were ejected. They are all very similar to the Latin ball players. They love all the flare and pizzazz; when they get hurt they are softer than baby [expletive]. Because they aren’t allowed to wear jewelry they load up with those Phiten necklaces and kinetic tape to have flare on the field. From my knowledge it’s an acceptable thing to bat flip and we just blow it up because we aren’t used to it.

I love how the guy crying about things like bat flips is so completely unaware when it comes to calling another player "soft." Boy, yeah, those leagues are just so soft because they don't tolerate their players acting like morons and beaning batters like they're petulant toddlers.

Not sure I'd interpret that statement the same way you did. It almost feels like he grew to accept the flare. I get that it's whiny to complain about the flare, but calling somebody soft when it relates to playing through injuries is a much different issue.

I'm not a big fan of pimping on the road, only because I don't want to see another team's player do it in Wrigley. But if you're at home, have at it.

Meh, pimp whenever you want. If someone does good at Wrigley and they wanna pimp, go for it. Don't want people to pimp? Don't let them hit dongs.

Road teams celebrate TD's at Soldier, goals and dunks at the UC...baseball's not special.

I'm not a fan of seeing opponents pimp against the Cubs either, and I think it's fine to get annoyed by that. But you can't go overboard in your response and you have to get over it immediately. There's nothing wrong with them doing it.

They intentionally walked the guy ahead of him too, so screw Paul Molitor.

Yup. The strategic reasons are obvious, but at the same time it's obviously saying, "[expletive] you, you suck, we're not worried about you doing anything with the bat." You come up and crush one when a team's walked someone to get to you? Hell yeah, you should get to enjoy it.

Every other sport you see people celebrating or getting pumped over scoring or a big play, but baseball is still our big, dumb uncle who says awkward things at holiday dinners. Flat out saying they're going to hit him is just ridiculous. It's like a basketball team saying they're going to clothesline Steph Curry because of what he does after he hits a big 3.

This showboat discussion has been going on for decades. People complained about Willie Mays basket catch in the 50's. And remember that Babe Ruth allegedly pointed to the bleachers and then hit the ball there. That's the ultimate.

My grandfather was at that game.

WOW! That must have been something. I believe there may be a film of the at-bat, but I've never seen it. Your grandfather was lucky.

I hope that you're safe and dry with that herkin' coming. Spent a lot of time in Ocean City and roaming the boardwalk. Stay safe.
