Alright look at the past what other teams traded for impact players for [expletive] sake the A's had to give up 2 studs for Shark and Hammel (Rental) granted Shark got them a good white sox prospect afterwards. If they have to give up top 5 caliber prospects to get a guy for 2 months its just not worth it to me.

There are options between "consider your above .500 team a seller and trade Fowler, Castro, and Montero for prospects" and "trade a bunch of prospects for a rental".

that is literally the only example of a team trading for a player to help them at the deadline so very good of you to include that and only that

as much as you guys dont agree thats fine, but these probably haunt alot of fans over the past

Holy [expletive], I just time traveled back to when I first saw this as a kid and laughed myself to the point I thought I was going to die.

im as impatient as the next fan, but why burn up what the FO has been spending the past few years on building up just to have a CHANCE at a wildcard spot.

I'd hate to see that next fan.

You do know that they still get to play again next year, right?

yeah exactly which why trading studs for rentals is a bad move.

You realize that the entire point of trading for rentals is because you won't have to give up the studs. Like, the sole purpose of people wanting them.

Clearly the reason the A's are terrible this year is because they got fleeced by the Cubs last year. I mean, that's just science.

making a trade makes more sense if you're fighting for a spot. if you're stronger and in a solidified position, it makes less sense.

Your example in sentence 1 has nothing to do with your statement in sentence 2. You acknowledged the main piece in the A's Cubs trade wasn't a rental.

Everyone knew the Beane trade was an overpay, anyways. I don't think it established any sort of precedent for future deals.

The A's actually have a better pythag than we do. They're gonna wind up winning the division again.

And how awesome would it be if we were bad next year so we could trade more veterans for prospect? And then the year after that, so we could trade those prospects for prospectier prospects. And the year after that so we could trade our proespectier prospects for the prospectiest prospects yet. And the year after that so...you get the idea.

In all seriousness, I will not shoot you. But if given my druthers, I'd prefer to be good and acquire more good players.

when you have an opportunity to take a playoff spot, you do what you can within reason to secure that opportunity as best possible, because the most important thing you need to do in order to win a world series is secure a playoff berth.

what you're saying about how you'd be more OK with trading for help if we were winning the division makes no sense. that team is less in peril and needs to take less risk to get into the playoffs.

If we were to trade Castro, it would not be a sell move. It would be to acquire a young stud SP.

As for Fowler and Montero, take a quick look at what we gave up for them. Then ask if they're any more valuable now than they were then. Then ask yourself if that's the type of return, give or take, is worth tanking for.

Your idea to trade Bryant, Rizzo, and Arrieta for a bunch of mediocre A ball relievers is awful. I can't believe you're even suggesting it.

There lies a happy and very large medium between the two extremes. But I'm pretty sure you knew that.
