Javy HBP in his 1st AB. 2nd AB he Ks, but he showed good patience going down looking in a 7-pitch at bat. He's even failing better now... :D

I think that's only his 2nd k in the past 5 games or something like that. Definitely improving.

Another HR for Schwarber, moving his OPS north of 1.125

In AA, it took Bryant about 140 PAs (33 games) to hit his 9th HR. Schwarber's done it in 129 (32 games).

32 games into his AA career, Schwarber is hitting .340/.446/.670. Thru 33 games, Bryant was hitting .328/.437/.630.

The numbers from their first professional season compare favorably as well. One of them hit .336/.390/.688, the other .344/.428/.634. Which one was Bryant's and which one was Schwarber's? The answer is: does it matter? Do the Cubs really have a left-handed hitting Kris Bryant who has a shot at playing catcher? Is Kyle really that good?

Whatever the Cubs scouting staff is getting paid, it's not enough.

And then McKinney is pulled for a PR after a 2B.

It was probably nothing more than it was a tie game, scoreless actually, and Hannemann has got better wheels than McKinney and would have a better chance of scoring from 2nd on a single.

Since the Javy speculation will wind up elsewhere at some point....If we bring him up, where are we playing him?

Left freaking field. No way he is a worse fielder than Coghlan. Gary Sheffield started out as a SS afterall.

Could be, but I think Baez is a way better infielder than Bryant and that there wouldn't be that much difference between them in LF. I think the best configuration (so long as Castro is playing SS) would be Bryant in LF, Baez at 2B, Russell to 3B. But it's close between Russell and Baez. They could easily switch.

Just let Joe get his hands on all of them. Rotate em around, give a guy an extra day off. We just played 17 straight. That's going to catch up to our rookies. Between LF, 3rd and 2nd we can get Baez enough ABs to justify it and give Russell a day off every now and then. Starlin, too.

I'm with CubsWin - it'd probably be an easier transition for all parties if Bryant shifts to the OF and Baez stays in the IF.

Don't see why Javy would be pulled so early when we don't play until Tuesday if it were a call up.

Plus they haven't given him any time at 3B, nor would they likely just throw Russell over there (and Bryant to LF) suddenly. Doesn't fit their MO.

I don't think days off are really necessary for 23 year olds. They've been playing everyday their entire lives/careers. Plus, I don't like messing with the young guys (pause!) unless they are really struggling, I'm talking worse than Baez was last year.

How much worse can you be struggling than Baez was last year?

IDK. Maybe that was an overstatement. Javy had to play last year because the team sucked and had to see if he could snap out of it. I guess I'm not really sure how I'd handle things on a winning team. Does not compute yet.

Does Javy have the speed for CF? I know it is more than just pure speed but he was athletic enough for SS and seems to have decent baseball instincts plus a good arm.

I would be mildly surprised if Javy is getting called up. As much as he's struggled with his swing since last year's promotion, I would have thought the front office would like to see him continue to swing well in AAA for a longer period before putting him back in the show...particularly when there isn't an obvious spot on the big club.

If I'm not mistaken, aren't there also some service time implications by calling him up now? If we wait until June 5th, I was under the impression we could delay his free agency until after 2021.

I hope javy keeps it up and the cubs dont let him go, Castro is good dont get me wrong but imho Javy has way more upside.

I mean if they ended up trading Javy i hope its not for a rental at least. that would suck.

i know KB can go to the OF and all, but for some reason i dont know if they would pull that trigger.

yeah your right, but maybe a suitor for a trade wont pull the trigger till they see some mlb performance? no idea tbh

And then if he struggles in the bigs, the suitor would say no. Why would the Cubs bend to that?

(I don't think he's coming up right now; he was just double switched out due to in-game strategy which is frustrating when it's a prospect who needs as many reps as possible.)

Not sure why Daury Torrez came out of the Myrtle Beach bullpen. Hopefully this isn't a permanent thing.

Maybe he was pulled due to attitude or something and they dont want to publicize it.
