yeah, watch Maddon get suspended meanwhile Matt Holliday saunters to first with every 3-ball take and the umpires capitulate and shrink their strike zone to better accommodate his team

The Dusty/Lou era seemed like it was full of ridiculous suspensions of Cubs players and managers, so it would follow that now that we're competitive they'd go back to it.

I don't remember this being a thing at all. Did that happen?

. "We've just celebrated Cinco de Mayo and that's an indicator of what's going on with your team," Maddon said. "I'm pretty happy and I wasn't drinking. It had nothing to do with Coronas with limes."

That ump had it in for Bryant specifically, in addition to just being terrible. Two at bats had horrible calls. But the same thing happened at least once today against Briant, both a high and outside pitch and a low and inside pitch were called strikes. Could either one have been strikes, yes, but not both in the same at bat, or even the same game if this were a few years ago. This year the zone has been wildly inconsistent every game. It really doesn't make sense. This is not just with the Cubs, I've watched a lot of Giants games as well, and they have the same problem.

The strike zone has always been wildly inconsistent. We just have better tools to track, measure and display it now.

The strike zone that night was horrible, both ways.

It certainly can be a problem when you have young guys who are trying to learn to hit at the Major League Level, and they are getting a floating strike zone.

Good for Maddon for standing up for the young guys. He's a good one.

(Just a side note, If Matheny did this he would be labeled a whiner)

Why whine on Earth when you know that Heavenly wine awaits?

I always suspected you were an alias; I just wasn't sure whose it was until now...

The Cubs scored their winning run Wednesday night on a bases-loaded walk by Chris Coghlan, who admitted it was a struggle to maintain his patience.

"Guys come with that chip," manager Joe Maddon said. "Some guys don’t come with that chip in the computer, the hard drive. The RAM isn’t necessarily large enough. Some guys just want to get hits, and they don’t understand the importance of accepting your walks. Either you got to buy patience or develop it.

"It's easier for me to teach a guy to strike out than it is to teach him to walk. It's not easily taught."
