it's nice to know i won't be able to ever enjoy a jon lester outing for the next 6 years

oh come, davis ross will surely be dead before then

i didnt crunch the numbers but over the years how much did david ross cover his ass?

Ross and Lester were only teammates for less than a year in a half so he doesn't need Ross to have success. But his throwing problems are and have been an issue. So much s that in spring training the Red Sox had Lester working on his throws to bases in a back field away from media and fans. As a Red Sox fan every time he fielded a ball it was hold your breath and pray time.

The NL will run on Lester with no mercy. His last start versus the cards every runner had huge leads off first. Why the Cards didn't run more is beyond me. He better figure it out or it's going to be a long year...

They likely didn't run more because the fastest guy on the team tried and was gunned down in the first inning.

Runners straight stealing 2nd off Lester this year are 5 for 7, with 2 of those steals belonging to Billy Hamilton. Even if he's pathologically incapable of throwing to first, Lester's left handedness(meaning runners can't get a Rizzo-style running jump), his quickness to the plate, and the inherent riskiness of any SB attempt are all preventative factors. As delicious a media story as Lester-as-Knoblauch may be, you're seeing that there's a pretty minor effect in practice.

All good points there...over time though this will put stress on the catcher and the middle infielders. We will just have to wait and see how this plays out over the season.

How did it play out over last season, when he didn't throw to first once? Did the AL teams just never notice this? Why are people acting like this is something new?

Yeah, it cracks me up. Just because the media didn't pick up on it doesn't mean that the team scouts didn't. I'm quite sure that the opponents last year knew he had the yips about throwing to first base.

Now I remember why I left this message board long ago....a lot of smug assholes on this site. It's a different league jagoff. AL is more station to station baseball. Again, we will see how it plays out.

Honest question...why do you think the AL is more station to station baseball?

Stolen Bases in the 2010's:

Year AL NL

2010 1505 1454 AL

2011 1600 1679 NL

2012 1501 1728 NL

2013 1428 1265 AL

2014 1394 1370 AL

2015 268 257 AL

Clearly, the NL doesn't steal more bases. Why do you think the AL is more station to station?

You complain about people being smug, and yet only because you made incorrect assumptions and treated them as facts, and then instantly got defensive as soon as someone suggested differently. You just have to expect to be challenged on incorrect assumptions.
