So we win like 7 straight NL Central titles, but the Mets arms stay healthy forever and we never get past them. That's how this will go, right?

I see 3 tommy johns in the mets future

3 guys with near HOF careers. Sounds about right.

They'll sign a Cuban called Tommy John and he'll win the Cy Young as a rookie

4-15 their last 19 games in the NLCS.

Cubs have had at least a 3-game losing streak every single time they've made the playoffs in the divisional era.

84, 89, 98, 07, 08, 15.

I don't believe past seasons have anything to do with the present, but what the hell?

How is it any more hard for the Cubs than any other team? It's a coin flip.

I understand how baseball works and that at any time any team in MLB could take 4 games from another. It still sucks big time that this franchise finds a way to crash and burn every single time. They don't just lose. They lose big. Does that mean we will in 2016? No. Do any of those teams from years past have anything to do with 2015? No. But it sucks, that this team has made every single postseason trip unbearable. Beating the Cardinals was great. Show up in the NLCS for just once without also having an epic collapse. We got whooped in the playoffs. Again. Happens every time. May not happen next year, but I'm sick of getting whooped.

I dunno, is it? You haven't compared the Cubs NLCS record to anyone elses here. You pointed at the Cubs record and said "it's bad".

The Dodgers are 4-12 in their last 16 NLCS games.

Why did you exclude 1984? 6-18 in their last 24 NLCS games.

The pattern there is the lack of good starting pitching. 1984 Sutcliffe wasn't that great in game 5. 1989 Maddux wasn't very good. 2003 Zambrano wasn't very good, Wood and Prior ran out of gas. 2015 Lester and Arrieta didn't get it done.

Which means that somebody out there has really good records. So what? We cheer for a team that has a horrible record in their most important games. That sucks. Sucks for the Dodgers too.

The Cubs have been completely inept in their most important games. That pisses me off. Not saying it will continue. We could go 90s Yankees and win 4 of 5 WS. But right now we cheer for a team that makes the postseason miserable. Seriously. Every one of our appearances has ended in a 3-game losing streak. If you don't see how that sucks...

I tell you what doesn't suck, the first 12 words there. The Cubs made the postseason this year and they have a pretty good shot at making it again next year. They can and should add talent to the roster. They went 4-5 this postseason and that is a bummer but they had a great regular season and a good showing in the postseason.

Of course it sucks. That wasn't the argument.

That was my argument.

I mean, this series sucked, but the season and the 2 rounds before that were pretty awesome. Only 4 teams made it as far as the Cubs did this year. Of course, I'm sad that it's over, and I'm not at all happy with how it ended, but I just can't be that miserable. Disappointed, but not miserable.

Yeah. They were. I thought this was going to be my favorite sports team ever. Actually, they were for a few days. 2003 Cubs passed them this week. There was zero joy I gained from this series.

Then you are a dead robot.

This team reminds me more of the 1984 Bears or the 2008-2009 Blackhawks. Full of talent, everyone in the world knew it, and the following season they were all world. I'm very excited for 2016.

the 2015 cubs gave us a lot more than the 2003 cubs

This is the best I've ever felt at the end of a Cubs season. Fatalism can suck it.

Yep, I've had a bunch of people at work the last couple days say something to the effect of "Sorry about the Cubs". I get that they're just looking at the last four games but this has been the most enjoyable Cubs season I've experienced. 08 was just as good of a regular season but we didn't win a game in the playoffs. 03 had a better postseason in terms of wins but an NLCS loss is an NLCS loss, plus we beat the Cards this year and the 15 regular season was better. I'll never forget Arrieta's CG in Pittsburgh with Schwarber hitting it out of the stadium. And then the home run barrage in Games 3 and 4 against the Cards.

And I know nothing is guaranteed but this team is about as well set up for future success as possible.

I don't really get an NLCS loss is an NLCS loss. '03 playoffs were infinitely more fun than this year's.

Eh, I'd say marginally more fun. And not enough for me to say that the 03 season as a whole was more enjoyable than this year. Beating the Cards and doing it the way they did goes a long way for me.

Beating the cardinals and pirates is better than beating Atlanta and then blowing a 2 game lead to Florida.

that's just nostalgia and the fact that we weren't all old like we are now

2003 was just some next level [expletive]. This season was a ton of fun, but because they never really got started in NLCS it still felt like they were just so far away from winning it all; as cool as it was beating the Pirates and Cardinals, it still just felt like it was at that "oh, that's nice!"-level. By the time everything went nuts in game 6 in 2003 it was like everything had shifted sideways into another dimension.
