yeah, i expect him to be in there April 17th

Really? I still have him coming up on April 20th given Theo's preference for debuting new players on the road.

keeping him down for 9 games makes perfect sense

keeping him down any longer just for arbitrary reasons of comfort or whatever, doesn't

Meh. Another couple games wouldn't bother me. Theo's essentially done the same with Mendy, Soler and Baez in regards to the road debut.

It would bother the [expletive] out of me. He should not be down there in the first place.

In the sense that the CBA sucks, I agree. If you mean the Cubs should burn a year of control for two weeks of this season, I think you're nuts.

I would be very surprised if the Cubs call Bryant up on the very day they gain that extra year, because hat would really be thumbing the union's eye and begging for controversy and criticism they don't need. They'll wait a couple extra days, but no more than a week.

They have already dealt with plenty of criticism from media, the agent, the mlbpa, the head of that pa, the player and every other potential complainer. What could would pretending he needs another week do to avoid more? The controversy and criticism is there and will remain there regardless.

Im sure by now everyone saw this or heard about it on TV/Radio

http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/116051238/bryant-reassignment-will-fuel-a-fire-to-get-back-to-bigs

But the one part that makes it interesting is this line here: Asked if he had any hard feelings, Bryant said he "didn't want to talk about that right now."

Assuming he becomes the superstar everyone thinks he will be, his revenge will be in the form of $$$$ by then the renovations will be done, but will the cubs really pay potentially the highest contract ever come his FA time?

In 2021 this will all be water under the bridge. He will hopefully have two or three WS rings and love Chicago, but yes his contract will be very high but I don't think this will play any part of if he resigns with the Cubs or goes to the Yankees.

You could be right, but some people dont forget, at the very least Boras wont forget.

Boras is a businessman first and foremost. The dude won't cut off his nose to spite his face, but he was never going to do the Cubs any favors with the contract negotiations either.

When he becomes a free agent, he'll be going to the highest bidder, no matter what. And it probably won't be the Cubs if Theo is still around.

Isn't that just the "traditional" way of handling this situation? I thought it's been pointed out that teams usually bring the player up at least 2-3 days after they initially could.

Yeah...i think goony is just saying this has received so much attention and even the union and the league have commented directly on it, that the cat is so far out of the bag that there's no point in doing anything for appearances sake at this point.

True, but the Cubs themselves are still playing it relatively coy. I've been assuming they'll still play it the usual way and have that little buffer.

Yes, that is what I am saying.

i really just can't give a [expletive] about this situation. I'll be 40 by the time his rookie deal is up. Payrolls might be $500m, women might be pitching or something. It's too far in the future to even speculate about

Between endorsement deals and actual contract money, this is just going to be such a non issue for everyone not named Scott Boras once he's actually in the big leagues. The Cubs have plenty of ways to help Kris Bryant through this horribly tough time in his life. It will all be okay. Really!

I will also have been 40 by that time.

He won't have enough surplus value.

The new market inefficiency is not making organizational decisions based on the whims of the Chicago sports media

Pretty much.

Although I do think that if he becomes a free agent and gets offered a 12 year deal or something similar, Theo would walk away.
