Thanks for talking me off the cliff. You are right. Last season Graham may as well have not shown up for more than half the games. I think Brees is still a top 5 QB, he just got hit and rushed way, way too frequently last year.

and ishtty offensive lines don't negatively effect QB play, that never happens.

His stats aren't what they used to be mainly because he is literally being sacked and hurried almost twice as much the past two years as he was during previous years. He was sacked 37 times in 2013 and that's against a dude who is extremely adept at avoiding sacks. The Saints line is a disaster. But you know these things already since you've watched every Saints game the past decade like NOLA and I have.

That was Romo almost every year till this year. Brees doesn't have that many left. Can they fix the OL fast enough without him taking too many hits.

As a Seahawks fan, this day is like the Nomar trade day....such a crazy high...

To think that the team now has the Top 2 TE and Top 2 RB with a franchise and arguably top 8 QB plus #1 defense....*Wilhelm Scream****

Nice generalization. Look into it for 5 minutes and you'll realize that the 5'11" Drew Brees is deadly when he has time to set his feet and doesn't have pressure up the middle. Make him scramble and he is below average at this point in his career. Russell Wilson he is not.

Who was the offer from, Chip?

Uh, it's a Canadian team you wouldn't know them. Also she's a model.

HAHAHAHA.

Yeah, I really need to do some research to realize that when everything was set-up perfectly for Brees he was great.

Thanks for the heads up.

Just no. I am saying that good pass protection is more important for a shorter, older touch passer like Brees than your generalization suggests. More important than a badass TE who is often injured and has questionable toughness.

So then what was the point of your original response to me? Just to be a snarky dick?

I see you've met gooney

That it was ridiculous to blame it all on he got hit and rushed too frequently. That happens to most if not all QBs. Brees isn't top 5 if he needs a clean pocket to perform.

It's not ridiculous to blame most of his "decline" last year to the fact that his line is nearly twice as bad as it was the previous season.

How was he any different as a QB in 2014 than he was in 2012 and 2013?

It is ridiculous to suggest he is top 5 as long as he gets a total clean pocket. Or that the fact that he's old, short and immobile excuses him from needing extra protection.

Putting words in my mouth. When did I said anything about a "clean pocket". The Saints line in most Brees years has been good but not great. The entire point of this discussion (at least for my part, I can't speak for what NOLA was arguing about with you) was to say that the people who think he is less of a QB than he used to be are assuming that the Saints are sucking because Brees is aging when they are actually sucking on offense because of the crappy offensive line. His QB rating was still good enough for sixth in the league last year, his comp pct was 2nd in the league, and his yards were 1st in the league, but his TD's were down significantly because the team just wasn't as good, especially the offensive line.

QB's need at least competent OL's and skill players around them to be productive. I'd argue that, of the top 5 or so QB's over the last 10 years, Brees has probably had the most overall "meh" skill players around him (Brady is a close second). Its pretty rare for QB's to be as successful as he has been while surrounded by mediocre talent.

I dunno what goony is all exercised about...then again, he doesn't usually need a good reason.

Yeah, I would never claim that 2014 Brees was a top 5 QB, but apparently it was imperative that I be shown how he's not.

To your point, I think this rationale went into what Loomis and Payton were thinking as well. Payton thinks that between his scheming and Brees' play he will score points, Graham or no Graham. He looked at who's winning in January and knows he needs to get stronger on both lines of scrimmage and get better on defense, which is only one facet of Graham for Unger.
