We could have really had Arians with a Marinelli ran defense? [expletive] me.

I'm not 100% sure that would've happened. I've read elsewhere that if Arians had come in, he'd have still wanted Bowles as his DC. Either way, it would've been awesome.

Yea Ray works. He'd be a lot better than Collins who is being frequently mocked to us.

Why is a mentally ill person who shows signs of being.........mentally ill a shocking revelation? Marshall will fall in line and said so on that same radio show

I thought from the beginning that Marshall in Chicago would have a short shelf life and believe we have gotten lucky so far that his outbursts have been so relatively tame.

@RapSheet

Four interview targets for #Bears GM opening: Chris Ballard (KC), Mark Ross (NYG), Lake Dawson (TEN), Vince Newsome (BAL)

@RapSheet

If at all possible, the #Bears want to hire a GM first, then have that person heavily involved in hiring a coach. Will move quickly.

Apparently Mike Holmgren wants to be a coach, and isn't interested in a "football czar" type position.

Will he be just an OC? Jk sorta.

I don't think he's a coach I'd hire before the GM- as was talked about, but if we hired a GM who meshed well and wanted to hire him I could get on board. He's kinda up there in age, so even with success may have a shorter time span.

Huh, Ozzies son I presume? Haven't heard that before. Not familiar with Dawson either... Will have to research those two.

So looks like Dawson got his start under the Holmgren regime in Seattle. A Dawson-Holmgren combo?

He's been in Tennessee since 2007 with various high level executive roles. But Tennessee's results in that time span don't inspire me... They fell off after 2008 and have never recovered...

Working on very limited information, Newsome is immediately my favorite of those.

I was just coming here to post that. If it's going to be those four...

1. Newsome

2. Ross

3. Ballard

4. Dawson

Ok never mind, no relation to Ozzie Newsome...

I think I'd go Ross, then everyone else is bundled together for now.

Lake Dawson would be interesting. I remember him playing at ND in the 90s, so he's pretty young (looked up he's 42). 3rd round pick of the Chiefs at WR. I've heard a lot of good things about him as a front office/player personnel person, but don't know if a GM job would be over his head.

Also of note is 3 of those 4 are black guys. Interesting.

Reading more on Newsome I think I'd rank him the same as Ross at the top. He also has a connection to Accorsi having played with the Browns during his tenure, fwiw.

I think Ballard is a distant 4th and Dawson in just kinda there until I know more.

According to the internet Newsome was born in bloody England, which is even further away from the NFL than Canada. Screw that.

Yea I noticed that too.

Regarding his credentials as a GM... His executive rolls for the past 7 years are equal or surpass what Ballard has had for the past 2-3, so he's at least above him in regards to experience.

Another interesting note about Newsome is that he was a part of the HC search committee for Harbaugh.

Oh also Newsome does the advanced scouting for opponents, which makes me like him after seeing defenses correctly guess Trestman all year.

There's a joke somewhere here with offsides (but we really had more of a problem with false starts which isn't quite the same thing)

Matt Miller mock draft has the Bears taking Shane Ray at 7: http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2312440-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-post-nfl-season-projections/page/8

Landon Collins at 6, Thompson at 9, Stanley at 11.

I like Ray a lot. He's a mean bastard with speed. He would be a freaking beast in a 3-4 set-up.

Reminds me of Shawne Merriman. I don't know if it's the similar complexion and first name though. I still think I'd have him as my 4th best edge rusher in this class. I think like Gregory (mainly for being 6'6"), Beasley and Dante Fowler Jr better, probably in reverse order.

I want nothing to do with Collins at 7. He was intriguing at 11-13 where I figured the Bears would be picking. But I'm a big proponent of ONLY picking QB, OL, pass rusher, and then only the most elite WRs or CBs in the top 10.
