And Maccagnan was a CFL executive before being an NFL scout for 10 years and only recently becoming college scouting director. So he's like Ballard mixed with Trestman.

Brown just another former Bear, Angelo era hire.

 

If he was a CFL exec before but has been in the NFL for the past 10+ years, he's got a leg up on Trestman.

I'm pretty much fine with them hiring Ryan and I can't tell you why and there are probably a million reasons I shouldnt be.

I'm with ya. Maybe it's because the possible candidates being floated around the league aren't very exciting.

I prefer Bowles over Gase but hoping for something else to come up. Gase they could interview during the bye, whereas they'll probably have to wait on Bowles... Neither seems like they type you'd hire before a GM so hopefully that's moving quickly behind the scenes.

 

Bowles and Quinn are the two guys I'm most interested in. I too worry about how good Gase really is with Peyton around.

 

"NFL people" love Gase. Gets the whole "brilliant NFL mind" label. But I agree with you. Though I prefer Bowles over Quinn by a decent margin.

I prefer Quinn. Though really with any first time HC I think I'm not going to get excited until I know who their assistants are.

Big ties to Tennessee. His brother is the Governor...his college roommate is a Senator...big donor to the athletic dept...was apparently on the board of directors for University of Tennessee Athletics.

When they made mention of it I hoped that it was a reference to only mean interviewing an established guy who would actually be more like GM himself and hire his own GM (something like Seattle with Carroll). That's not looking like the case.

This is the same thing me and WF22 were complaining about. They don't have a football guy at the top, they don't follow a proper chain of command. Phillips and mccaskey have their hand in the cookie jar regardless if Accorsi is there or not.

Some guys can only be interviewed now or you have to wait for weeks. It is perfectly reasonable that they would interview these guys to get the process started so that once a GM is hired they will only have to let him interview these guys again. It's a lot better than not showing any interest in them and allowing potential candidates to be ignored.

this isn't about them not having a football guy at the top. it's about needing to hire the guy at the top first.

given this organization's history of ineptitude with these things, i have a hard time believing they're doing something that smart. if they are, sure, it's great.
