Maybe the first time the Contract Crowdsourcing project has ever nailed a deal of that magnitude.

Have been able to confirm @jonHeyman report that Red Sox are indeed trying to sign Sandoval as well as Ramirez per @ken_Rosenthal

A not so small part of me wants them to sign both then trade Bogaerts for Hamels just to prove once and for all that Cherington is basically Saber-Hendry with the way their plans shift wildly year to year.

Sounds like they might be signing Pablo Sandoval as well. 5/102 is rumored.

where are you seeing this? (that it sounds like it's nearing and that rumored figure, not that they're interested still)

It's all over Twitter that Fatty is flying to Boston tonight to sign tomorrow. It's not official until Wittenmeyer says though.

How great is payroll flexibility? Just sign the best players available and then deal from depth to fill other needs.

The Red Sox were at $118m in obligations when today started, so it will be interesting to see how these contracts are paid out over the lives of the deals.

I was surprised at how much they have expiring in 2015, looks like 44m or so?

Yeah so I am guessing the first year of each of these deals will be pretty low to keep them under the luxury tax. I wonder if they still have the flexibility to go after Lester?

Don't worry...after we keep rolling over our payroll flexibility because we can't find a good FA to sign at our predetermined price we will have $150 million to spend in the 2018 offseason.

I didn't realize the Tanaka fund was strictly for when Tanaka next becomes available. Hopefully he opts out.

This really makes no sense. He can't play SS any more and Panda's at 3rd. So they're going to stick him in LF which is tough w/ the Green Monster. What happens when he decides he doesn't like that anymore? He's becoming more injury prone and his attitude can be a little shaky at times. This is not a good deal for the Sox.

Yeah I can't see or understand the Red Sox direction. They are either blocking Betts or Bogaerts which seems weird to me.
