Lol at Nebraska thinking they are too good for 9 win seasons anymore.

Nebraska was pretty much ranked higher in every preseason poll than they ever finished. And the alumni and fans hated him. Probably the single biggest dick in college sports.

His players sure seemed to love him.

Nebraska shouldn't be settling for 9 win seasons

Illinois and Iowa certainly shouldn't be settling for their results either. Ferentz needs to be given the boot

So if PSU had a coach who won 9+ games/year for his first 6 years, you'd want him canned?

I am disappointed that we're at a point where Ferentz should go. That dude brought me a lot of good memories for Iowa football but his style of football has been stale for awhile and losing to worse programs than ours is incredibly tiresome. If it weren't for a pretty lucky 2009 he probably would have been gone a few years ago.

Iowa won't eat his contract and pay a suitable number for a replacement. He's not that bad besides. Iowa is a bad hire away from being illinois.

Nebraska shouldn't have fired Bo. They will not upgrade.

Yeah let's not act like Nebraska is a powerhouse program anymore. It's been 20 years since they've been that.

And whose fault is that? Should the Nebraska AD resign himself to 9 wins and second place in the Big Ten West every year?

Nebraska is Iowa, so you only have to look next door at the downside of kissing goodbye 9 wins in perpetuity. Pelini was really abrasive and with his consistency never meant higher highs like occasional conference titles(even if they came with lower lows, like Iowa), so I get that there's some logic to letting him go. There's a whole lot of risk out there though and maybe not much benefit, you have to acknowledge that the odds are not in their favor of maintaining the Pelini standard with the new coach.

I acknowledge it, but I also like that the Nebraska AD doesn't want to settle

The situation reminds me of when Arkansas fired Houston Dale Nutt and the national media scoffed, saying we should be happy with what we had. Sometimes there's more to the story than wins and losses, and by all accounts Pellini is as big a douchebag as Nutt. If he just had acted differently he probably would still have a job. When the donors and fans hate the coach it's time for a change.

I think all 3 of those could be looking at less then desired results for awhile.

Yeah let's not act like Alabama is a powerhouse program anymore. It's been 20 years since they've been that.

It's been 17 years since Nebraksa won a title. Same as Bama before Saban won in '09, and Bama hit lower lows than Nebraska ever did.

Not that there is a Saban equivalent available, but even if there were, Nebraska would have no shot at him. It's not like Bama being able to reel in Saban was a stunner.

Why? Their previous coaches were Mike Shula, the embarrassment of Mike Price and his 0 games, and a guy who ditched them for freakin Texas A&M

If there were a candidate who one could reasonably expect to elevate Nebraska, I could maybe see rolling the dice and canning Pelini.

But right now, they're talking Patterson and Briles. Neither of those dudes are leaving their Texas stomping grounds to coach at a school that never even plays in that state.

After that, the buzz I'm reading is Narduzzi, Frost, Fuente, or Fritz. None of those are home run hires when you just fired a guy who was guaranteeing 9 wins.

With Michigan Florida and Miami jobs likely available, as well as the usually 5-6 NFL jobs, nebraska is far down the list to grab a top coach. For example USC, arguably the top job on CFB, settled for a guy who got replaced with an upgrade. Bo pelini has returned nebraska to respectability.

If there were gonna fire him, they should have done it last year and grabbed petrino. Hiring a top coordinator is such a risk. And remember that pelini was the top coordinator himself before he took the nebraska job.

Scott Frost has to be the Nebraska hire, right?

He's the Vegas favorite. Makes all the sense in the world if he wants to go to make the jump now.

Why would you fire Pelini for Petrino. You don't fire a guy for being an [expletive] only to bring in another [expletive]. Petrino is a better coach but also a flawed coached.

Curious if Florida can get Stoops. Or if they even are going to target him.

To be a successful CFB coach you have to be an [expletive]. The very best like Saban, Spurrier, and Meyer are enormous assholes. Jim Harbaugh is the bigger [expletive] who might be available and therefor the top hire.

They aren't towards boosters, alumni, or students though. They actually know how to work that angle.

He's the only guy I even remotely like amongst the candidates mentioned.

That's a HUGE roll of the dice, though. Let's fire a sitting head coach who's never had fewer than 9 wins so we can hire an OC with zero HC experience?

on a related note, Rich Rodriguez was just named P12 Coach of the Year
