The Bears went for it at first but once again they gave up on a questionable fumble/inc pass situation. A more generous official would have ruled that Vikings ball. It was called correctly though. Regardless, they gave up on another play.

Stopping when the play is blown dead is giving up on a play?

hey look, another catastrophe.

will someone else please just admit that the bears have a curse as well?

Apparently the rule works in our favor not to fall on it "just in case" so I'm okay with it...

Yes because it was a play where the ball conceivably could have been given to the Vikings despite the whistle blowing

It's not tough. Regardless of a whistle if you see the ball on the ground, fall on it. It's not a difficult concept

@ProFootballTalk: Bears have now been outscored 90-7 in the first halves of the last three games.

It could have? I thought that was precisely why it wasn't given to the Vikings (because nobody had it when the whistle was blown)

The ref said there wasn't a clear recovery so the play stood. Clear recovery seems like a subjective decision and the Vikings eventually fell on it so I think it's possible the refs could have given the ball to the Vikings.

The announcers basically said that since all players stopped at the whistle there isn't a recovery. If they kept going for it and didn't get it, Vikings keep it. I don't know I'm still confused by the series of events.

Other instances where hustle hurt the Bears like that was giving up before the whistle.

My understanding was that the recovery needs to be a continuation of the play and not just an afterthought to pick the ball up because nobody else has.

Soldier Field is gonna get UGLY!!!

If Cutler throws a pick-six this upcoming drive, they might rush the field en masse.

I honestly hope this happens now.

They didn't pick up the ball. Every whistle blew. Ball is dead. End of discussion.

That's pretty much how I see it.

why is this such an important piece? of discussion. we missed the field goal anyway, gave it to them with better field position, and they faked a punt and scored. it actually worked out better for the vikings probably and worse for the bears.

it always does.
