The 8th place team in the West right now is a game under .500.

So the conferences are more or less balanced at this point in time, record-wise, top-8 (West still leads H2H by an absurd amount, and the bad East teams are BAD).

That is, until OKC gets rolling.

It seems like this has been the case for years, and years, and years now. When was the last time the East was better than the West?

The 80's and 90's was basically the reverse of this situation.

OKC has won 8 of their last 9. They're already rolling, but have @SAC, @GS, @LAL this week.

The actual last season the East was better, though, was 2008-09. That was the year the Cavs, Magic and Celtics all won 59 or more games, and only one East team finished with fewer then 32 wins (Washington).

The 80's, yes...but not as much the 90's. Just looking at pure winning percentage, 1997 and 1998 were the only years that the East held a significant advantage.

The East hasn't won more than 50.5% of games since 1998.

But this year is ridiculous.

This year, so far, the West is 89-45 against the East, a 66.4% winning percentage. It's down from earlier in the month, as the East has struck back lately.

West record of the top east teams:

Raptors: 7-2 (1-1 vs. Top 8)

Wizards: 5-1 (1-1 vs. Top 8)

Hawks: 3-2 (0-1 vs. Top 8)

Bulls: 4-4-1* (2-1-1* vs. Top 8)

Cavaliers: 2-6 (0-2 vs. Top 8)

Overall 21-15-1* and 4-6-1* vs. the Top 8 in the West

*= Loss solely because of Kirk Hinrich and should not be acknowledged as a legit loss to a West team

Rondo to the Mavs for a few average players and future picks (1st and 2nd). I know the West is tough but a lineup of Rondo-Eillis-Parsons-Dirk-Chandler could win it, imo. Assuming health. You could get really creative with Rondo-Dirk screens/triangle type offense and Parsons-Ellis cutting/sitting in a corner.

Of the 120 players that have shot enough to qualify, Kobe Bryant is 117th in both shooting percentage and true shooting percentage.

The Pistons announce that they have waived Josh Smith. Wow.

Wow indeed

2.5 years left and close to $34 million that they will eat for him not to play for Detroit

I know it's just one game but it's funny that Kobe sits out and the Lakers roll the best team in the league.
