You're not alone. I'm not disinterested in the NFL, but I've been watching fewer and fewer games that don't involve Carolina. A lot of that has to do with being married to a non-football fan, granted, but I've actually gotten to the point where I don't mind watching only a day and a half straight of football and not two days.

This has nothing to do with Week 8 specifically, but I'm just curious whether anyone else shares in my rapidly decreasing interest in the NFL.

I used to look forward to every Bears game, watch most games on Sunday/Monday nights, and thought it was great when we reached the point in the season when Thursday night football started. Over the past few years I have slowly stopped watching many of those games, to the point where this year I am barely even interested in the Bears and usually just have the game on in the background.

I'm trying to figure out what has changed... getting older, getting married, having a kid, I'm sure all those events have contributed to some degree, but more than anything I think I have just become exhausted with the nonstop and over-the-top coverage of NFL. The more the media talks about it and everyone gets wrapped up in their fantasy teams, I find myself backing further and further away. The NFL dominates sports talk more than ever and I find myself listening to sports radio less and less at work because I just get sick of hearing about football. I apparently have the opposite of #FOMOF, whatever that would be.

Am I alone in this feeling? Where can I join the support group for people who love sports but are tired of football?

Take away your disinterest in the Bears and I would say it's all about getting older, getting married and having kids. I stopped watching non-Bears primetime games a lonngggggggggg time ago. There's too much other stuff in life to be bothered by those things. I will on occasion throw them on, but that is about it. I do not think it is at all about over-the-top coverage of the NFL. That is very easy to avoid, if not completely ignore. I also gave up sports radio long ago but that is because it is stupid and pointless. It has nothing to do with being sick of football, it's just being sick of people who get paid to argue about sports.

The fact that you also have lost interest in watching the Bears seems a bit different than my situation. I have definitely wandered away from the TV to do other stuff during the game, mostly pouring another drink or stirring/flipping whatever food I am making. But I still look forward to those games and have it front and center.

Same here with a lot of this. Main thing for me was giving up fantasy sports a few years ago and how much football talk, whether on the radio or with friends, revolves around that. Or it seems to veer into college football, which I could not loathe more. Combine that with how frustrating the Bears are and how scumbag-y the NFL is in general and I have zero interest in watching it much.

Definitely not alone. At this point I only watch the game itself. I just dropped NFLST, so that will further decrease how much I follow.

i wasn't really excited going into the season, but i'm still watching a decent amount of these thursday & sunday night games, though that just might be more fantasy football-driven intrigue than anything else

i really do wish the NHL was even one-tenth as good getting its product out there as the NFL is, though

actually, baseball, too...LCS games on FS1? f that

Overall sportswise, jersey's point is spot on about getting older and having more to do. Obviously I still post here frequently and keep up on sports news and discussion, but actually sitting down and watching games not involving my teams has become very infrequent. And when my team sucks I even stop watching them quite a bit.

However, the NFL is the exception for me, probably for 2 reasons: Fantasy football and NFL Red Zone channel. Fantasy football forces me to pay attention to the league as a whole, and the red zone channel is just an amazing entertainment experience imo.

but red zone is only useful on sunday and doesn't have anything to do with primetime games. are you watching thur/sun/mon night?

Not diligently, if I am home and not doing something else, I'll flip it on for a few minutes here and there to see how my fantasy players are doing, or if the score is close late I'll put it on. But yeah interest is definitely diminished over a few years ago. Last night's Chargers/Broncos game would have been a game I would have watched in its entirety 3-4 years ago. I still watch a 10x more football than I do the other sports.

I'm probably going to watch more NBA than any other sport. That's crazy.

i really struggle to conceive of a single worse waste of time

I said it was crazy.

Plus watching, like, only 25 game NBA games will top how much football and baseball I watched between and this time last year.

Golf?

I'm down to 3-4 rounds a year.

I'll watch every round of the 4 majors and then the Ryder/President Cup.

I remember the days where I'd watch college football from 11-midnight on a Saturday and the NFL from noon-10:30 on a Sunday. Very rarely do I do that now. Outside of the Packers on Sunday's, I only watch bits and pieces of the other games during the other two blocks. And unless there's a big college football game like the ND-FSU game from last weekend, I can't stay committed to watching football for a full day.

Getting old sucks.

Agree on all counts (sub Bears for Packers). I still try and pay attention to the big college games and follow on my phone, but Saturdays/Sundays in the fall have turned into Apple Picking, Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, family party type things due to having kids. I'm sure that stuff will be replaced by kids sports/music stuff as my kids get older. I can justify 3 hours of a Bears game and watching the Saturday night football games (at least the full 2nd half and most of the late games) while catching the end of SNF/MNF/TNF. Watching all day both days is a thing of the past. Unfortunately.

I hope you don't remember those days fondly. I used to be similar although not quite that much. The reality is, I just needed to figure out more things to do with my weekends and there is plenty.

Plus, having a significant other ends that crap forever.

I didn't play this year, but that's mostly because of cost. The summer is an expensive time already...increased child care costs among other things.

Gerald McCoy, arguably the best remaining free agent next offseason, has re-signed with Tampa. Jay Glazer says 7 years, nearly $100 million.

They had 2nd and 10 at the Lions 40 with under 2 minutes and proceed to stop the clock on consecutive downs with a holding and an incomplete pass to give Det all the time in the world. Unreal.
