Fwiw, Illinois is getting overlooked because they've been bad.

Have to get someone in there who cbest recruiteran recruit despite them being bad. Beckman isn't the answer.

Beckman is a fine recruiter. Illinois is recruiting more or less at the level of Wisconsin and Iowa right now. They are in the mix in that second tier of BT teams.

Only sustained success can take them higher than that. But the state produces a lot of surplus talent in the form of 3 - star kids that could make the jump. They will have to get there with those types. Beckman may not be the one to do it, but Beckman doesn't do much anyway.

Last year, they had the worst recruiting class in the big ten. '13 was decent at 47, 15' is looking better at around 50.

You need an elite recruiter who can recruit nationally or at least regionally. You get too spastic about state lines. Being the top recruiter in Illinois isn't going to get them where they need to be.

Illinois will never recruit at an elite level nationally. They just need to recruit like Wisconsin. And like I said, Dudek is probably a 4-star and Allison not far behind.

Schools like Illinois should not recruit nationally. It's a waste of recruiting effort. They should recruit regionally on the states below, w/ a focus on IL.

IL -#9 state for producing d1 football players

OH -#5

MI -#10

MO

PA #8

There is more then enough talent to go around there. I think that's UI's strategy, too, though looking at the rankings, it doesn't seem like they get as many good players as they should.

The big keys are scheme, identifying talent, and development, imo. KSU has 32 guys on the two-deep that are walkons or JUCOs. They can get to the top 10 that way because they have a scheme that they've perfected, they identify guys who will fit into that scheme (many of them lightly recruited for being a little slow or a little short), and they have amazing player development.

I don't know enough about Beckman/his staff to know if they're talented in those areas.

They have to crawl before they can walk. Right now, they can't compete nationally but they have to bring someone who can recruit despite what Sully says, that's not Beckman.

Zook could recruit there. Once and if they to get an upper level Big 10 school, they can get top 15 classes. No reason why they can't get top 25 classes now.

If they can do that at UK, they can do so too.

Rivals had both Dudek and Allison as 3-stars. Rivals also had Illinois signing no one better than 3 stars and the Illini were ranked 42 spots behind Wisconsin - all in last year's class.

I know I'm an idiot but I am the only one who think the Tide are the best in the country?

Was the 14-point win over Tennessee or the 1-point win over Arkansas what convinced you?

I'm not saying they're not the best, but there are few teams out there this year that are outstanding. There are a bunch of good teams (most of the Top 10) who can play with anyone depending upon the day, but no one single team who stands out.

And what's going to suck is the picks of the committee, because there is no clear-cut decision.

At least at this point, because there is still A LOT of football to be played.

Yeah, right now it's not clear cut, but it never was in the past at this point in a season. The only thing we can be fairly certain of is that FSU is going to make the playoff.

Well, you never know.... Winston could get caught on camera killing a hooker and be suspended, though since it's FSU it would probably only be a couple quarters

As long as he's not yelling obscenities at the hooker.

There is a large portion of our fanbase that is convinced we're losing on Thursday night in a "perfect storm" type of setup. I'm starting to personally worry about the Miami game.

What will be more fun is to see where a lot of these teams end up, especially the SECw. There are plenty of scenarios out there where they might get shut out from the playoff, in spite of (potentially) being the best conference/division in CFB.

I said that knowing what we know about their development, if you re-ranked them, they'd be 4-star. Add two 4 star kids to Illinois' class and it's better than wisconsin, who benefited from a very large class in terms of overall point. I believe.

Ah, missed that part.

That's possible, though you'd be losing two 3-stars at the same time and that's a really big gap to jump. It certainly would be closer, though.
