@BroadcasterMick: Playoffs start for @smokiesbaseball tonight in Chattanooga. Teams tied for first. Series winner takes second half- it's a best of five

Looks like I'm going to head out and catch the Peoria Chiefs vs. Beloit Snappers game tonight. Anybody I should keep a particular eye on for either team?

Rob Kaminsky, if he's pitching for Peoria. Carson Kelly was a 2nd rounder for them, he's worth looking at, I guess. He's a C now, which I didn't know. Glancing at Beloit's roster, I didn't see anything.

Yeah, that's pretty much it for who jumped out at me too. (Aside from new Boog Powell on Beloit).

It wont be as fun as when it was a Cubs affiliate, but I'm still looking forward to tonight.

they don't sell boise hawks shirseys on their website so might just need to make one using one of their t-shirts and some iron-ons

KB, Russell, Soler(won't get the AB's), Schwarber, Almora, CJ, McKinney, Tseng, PJ, and Torres is my top 10 currently.

Meija 4.1IP 1H 1R 1BB 5K

A KC rotation of Stinnett, Sands, Steele, Meija, Clifton next year would be pretty sweet.

That would be sweet, and possible but it doesn't seem likely to me given this FO's pattern with high school pitchers. Both Underwood and Blackburn each spent a full season at Boise after spending their first partial season (after being drafted) in Mesa. The same held true for Clifton.

There have been exceptions to that rule, however. It still depends on how they perform in minor league spring training. If one of them really impresses, like Tseng did, they could bypass Boise.

If no one really blows up next spring, of that group, I can see Stinnett, Clifton and possibly Mejia having the best chance at beginning at KC with an outside shot of Stinnett starting at Daytona. Stinnett's still new enough to pitching though that that seems like a stretch to me.

My guess for KC's rotation would be Stinnett, Conway, Clifton and Leal with Norwood, Thorpe (Maples), Mejia, Sands and Steele being considered. Conway could also start at Daytona depending on his spring.

I'm dropping Almora lower than that. There are a few extenuating circumstances to his performance this year, but there are so many flags right now.

Bryant

Soler

Russell

Schwarber (if he's a decent C, he's in the top group)

Torres

McKinney

Tseng

Almora

CJ

PJ

I feel like I'm forgetting someone. But then I realize it is because Baez, Arismendy and Hendricks are already up and locks to exceed rookie limits.

Doesn't McKinney ultimately project as a LF? Despite the tear he's put on since being traded, I don't know if I'm bumping him up that highly yet. I may still keep Almora ahead of him based on positional value, despite how much his plate approach scares me.

Almora is only 4 months older than McKinney, the positional value is enough for me to keep him over McKinney for NOW. But he needs to have a better year next season obviously.

I don't think it's probably that all 5 of those guys are there, but Sands and Steele have been much better than Underwood, Blackburn, and Clifton were.

And for some reason, I always forget that it's Mejia and not Meija.

I hadn't given that much thought, but I think that's totally justifiable. After the obvious first group (Bryant/Soler/Russell/Schwarber in whichever order), I can see the argument for putting a really gifted defensive SS who can hit and walks plenty ahead of the second five, with Almora/McKinney and the 3 pitchers in some sequence or other.

Whatever order, whoever is going to get listed at #10 is going to be a very significant prospect.

torres doesn't hit or project for enough power for me to be THAT high on him yet.

the early success at such a young age is really nice (and it's amazing that he's done well enough to even put himself into this conversation) but for me to drop him into the top 5 when he's still this far away he'd have to at least project to grow into some power (which i haven't heard at all)

like if eloy were putting up the same numbers i'd be higher on him, i think...but then again one is a SS and one is an OF so what am i talking about?

When he signed, he was projected as a .300 hitter with 10-15 HR power while being a potential plus defender at shortstop. Now in-game, we see he has great plate discipline at age 17 while in the AZL and NWL, in his first year in a foreign country. I mean, the average age for the NWL is 21.

At Torres' current age, Addison Russell and Javier Baez were starting their senior seasons in high school and Starlin Castro was playing in his native country in the DSL.

still... on the high end if things work out pretty well he's, what, lindor?

that's really good, but given he's this far away i'm reluctant to put him org top 5.

that's not to say that in a year if he's still doing well as an 18 year old at KC he's not our best prospect (since bryant and russell will/may have graduated).

or maybe my idea of an organizational top 5 is really really twisted right now because of what we've been used to.
