nwa one is still the cool one

Seriously you need to shrink it so that it doesn't stretch the formatting of the page.

Don't do it David.

Someone reassure me about Baez...

Yes I know that his pattern has been to struggle mightily at each new level before "figuring it out," but his approach seems so completely broken that I'm doubtful he is going to make some minor adjustment that suddenly eliminates his problems. He appears to be completely guessing, pre-determining which pitches he is going to swing at. He takes a fastball right down the middle of the plate, then swings at one 3 feet out of the zone. I realize I am almost certainly overreacting, but he doesn't look like someone who is ready for the major leagues right now.

It is also pretty clear that he is over-swinging, but I'm not so worried about that. I'm confident that some combination of coaching and him becoming more comfortable at the plate will help him realize that he doesn't need to put everything he has into every swing. But will that correspond to an improved understanding of the strike zone?

As much as I want to see Baez, Bryant, and Soler together in the lineup by mid-April, I'm starting to wonder whether Baez may spend some more time in Iowa next year if he doesn't begin to show signs of improvement over the next few weeks.

He's done this at every level. Usually struggles bigtime for around 150 at bats. With this being the highest level, I'd give it double that personally. But my honest guess is he'll bust out before the end of this season.

That said, he's going to be an extreme hot and cold guy, ala Soriano, for his career. Maddening at times, carries you by himself at others. I'm not worried at all about him.

Already showing signs of stage 2 IMO

Haven't been watching but judging from the box scores over the last several games he seems to be k'ing a lot less and making more contact. If that's the case its only a matter of time before he busts open on a hot streak, IMO.

Small sample size but:

First 21 games: 44.4% K-rate

Last 10 games: 31.0% K-rate

Of course, he was OPSing .698 the first 21 games and is at .396 the last 10 (coming into today since I didn't feel like doing the math).

First 21: .198/.233/.465/.698 with a .256 BABIP

Last 10: .150/.190/.225/.415 with a .222 BABIP

seems pretty low for a guy who makes baseballs feel pain

Looks like he is an 87.5% contact% guy now. I can live with that.

Also, I don't remember him being a Soriano hot/cold streak guy after adjusting in the minors. Once he figures it out he's just hot, period.

To start next year, should we expect some degree of regression in his adjustment period owing to the offseason break, or is he likely to just pick up wherever he leaves off this year, whether that means figures things out this year and picking back up in April "figured out" or picking up at whatever stage of development in which he finishes 2014?
