I think this is the year I'll finally buy low on Cutler as my starting QB. 6th or 7th round sounds about right, and I'll probably draft a good backup not too long after just in case. Of course I could always change my mind last minute and draft Newton for the third year in a row.

But I've been wanting to do this for the past couple years and now that Trestman's offense is established and proven, I finally feel comfortable doing it.

I've had Cutler as a backup a couple of years and then when I had to make a move, traded my starters for help elsewhere and moved Cutler up due to the year he was having. In both instances, (2011 and 2013), he got hurt about a week after I made the move.

That being said, I think Cutler is starting caliber this year, but I wouldn't go after a non-Rodgers or Manning except Brees until the 6th. He'll probably be one of the viable starters left once RGIII, Cam, Stafford, Luck, Brady go off the board and could have a better year than all of them.

Anyone want to help me with picking keepers? Standard scoring w/ Flex spot, 10 teams, no PPR, $200 auction budget(keepers included), I can keep 2.

Stacy $30

Gerhart $9

Green $41

J Jones $35

Cobb $25

K Allen $18

I'm thinking 2 of Stacy/Cobb/Allen, but at the same time I'd probably pay big money for a Green/Jones caliber receiver anyway...

I'm going to have the 3rd pick of the draft in a keeper league. QBs are really valuable due to weird scoring in their favor, so QBs get snatched up in like 9 of the first 12 picks...its really weird.

Anyways, I am debating between 4 keepers..I pick 2....yes my team sucked last year. Aaron Rodgers as a 1st round pick, AJ Green as a 2nd, Frank Gore in the 5th and Zac Stacy in the 8th. I'm thinking Green and Stacy because I'll probably be able to take Rodgers or someone comperable anyways as a 1st round pick. Stacy is pretty solid as the starter right?

Man how does your league determine keeper price? I think I go Allen and Stacy.

It's our first time with keepers, if you drafted the guy it's the average of the price you paid and this year's ESPN value, if you picked them up as a FA it's 80% of this year's ESPN value.

Gotcha. Doesn't reward you too much for smart drafting.

Starting in a new league with a draft on Sunday night, and since I'm taking over the last place team, I have the #1 pick. And I'm really over-thinking it.

Charles - I have injury concerns

McCoy - Hurt his thumb last night, might lose points to Sproles

Peterson - Best player on a bad team

Forte - Homer pick

My brain is trying to convince me that Forte is a good pick because there's nobody to steal any carries from him, and this offense is going to be great. That's just homer thinking though, right?

I would put AP at the top. Forte would be 2nd.

Thoughts on keepers? This is the 5th or 6th year of this league but first time we're using keepers. It's an auction league and we can keep two players. Here's my roster (minus guys I'm not considering keeping) and how much it would cost to keep them. We start with a $200 budget and the price would be backed out of our auction budget. Not a PPR league.

QB: Cam Newton - $37

RB: Matt Forte - $52

RB: Montee Ball - $6

WR: Calvin Johnson - $43

WR: Demaryius Thomas - $32

WR: Josh Gordon - $4

I'm leaning CJ/Demaryius right now for a total of $75, having me bringing $125 to the draft to fill the rest of the roster. Gordon's problems have really screwed me, as I loved the idea of going CJ/Gordon for $47 and having a pretty good budget leftover for the draft. I like the idea of having my two WRs locked in, especially being two of the top guys in the league, but wanted to see what you guys thought.

Ball seems like a steal at that price. Hes a superior runner to Knowshon, who had a crazy good season last year. Tough break on Gordon, that would be a great price. I think I would go Ball and either CJ or DT.

Seeing what some of these RBs are going for in the mocks, I'm starting to lean towards CJ and Ball as well.

And now I'm thinking about saving the $11 and keeping Demaryius and Ball instead of CJ and ball. The season needs to start so I'm forced to make a decision.

Draft tomorrow. I'm really starting to question my strategy.

I've been assuming that I would draft Forte with the 3rd pick (Charles, McCoy 1-2), but my PPR league voted to only have 1 starting RB, 2 WRs and a Flex. So the draft will be WR heavy. If I go Forte at 3, my #1 WR will probably be in the Randall Cobb vein.

Am I crazy for thinking of going Calvin Johnson at 3?

Forte and Cobb vs. Johnson and (if anything like my other draft) Arian Foster could be there.

Thoughts?

You're probably smart for taking Calvin there and locking in the best WR in football, but I'm super nervous about Foster for some reason this year. Forte is such a huge advantage in PPR, but I'd probably take Calvin and bank on a really solid RB still being there.

If you can get a top flight RB, you get it. WR is a much deeper position and more quality WR's emerge each year than RB meaning you can find good ones later in the draft. With a flex position you can use two RB's so get one great one and if one falls to you later grab him too.

Can keep up to 5, in a two QB league. Draft round pick forfeited in parenthesis, I can keep multiple guys from the same round.

Cam Netwon (1)

Matt Ryan (7)

Zach Stacy (15)

Reggie Bush (5)

Ryan Mathews (3)

Calvin Johnson (1)

Alshon (14)

I'm thinking Ryan, Stacy, Johnson and Alshon. Let Cam go and see what QB's are all available in rounds 2-6. Probably could get him in round 2 or 3 if I want to.

Posted
I'd keep Stacy, Johnson and Alshon. If you want to make sure you have a serviceable QB, keep Ryan, but I think the mid-tier of QBs in fantasy this year are all quite similar and you can get someone maybe a little later that is comparable. I'm not huge on Cam this year (wasn't even before he got hurt last night...and wish he wasn't on my dynasty team for two more years...) so I definitely agree with you there.

I just got Ryan in the 10th round, so I think keeping him is unnecessary. Definitely go Alshon and Calvin. I would have for sure voted Stacy an hour ago, but now that Bradford is done, I'm hesitant on that unless they get somebody competent at QB.
Posted
Thanks for the input guys, Ryan is solid and I want to insure I at least have a top 10 QB locked up. Giving up a 7th rd pick to secure that isn't all that big of a cost or overpay, imo. Though not having a passable QB could hurt Stacy, I only have to give up a 15th rd pick to keep him as he was a FA pick up last year. So there's a lot of value there.

What's everybody's thoughts on Stacy after Bradford's injury? They're going to run more than they would have, but is there any reason whatsoever for teams to not put 9 in the box against them?

And if they put 8-9 in the box, can Stacy run anyway?

Bradford was hurt for most of last season too and Stacy was fine. All of his rushing TDs and all 5 of his 80+ yard games came after Bradford went down. I don't think it helps Stacy to see the QB position get downgraded, but Bradford really wasn't all that good himself, so there's not likely to be a fundamental shift in how teams approach the Rams offense under a worse but not drastically worse QB.

And now I'm back to keeping Calvin because looking at who others are going to (probably) keep, I'm going to want to make a run to bring back Forte and either Calvin/Demaryius or fear a big drop-off since I'm planning on going cheap at QB. It looks like it might be more expensive to try and re-draft Calvin than to try and re-draft Demaryius based on the mock drafts I've seen. I'm going to have a stroke.

That's a good point. Maybe I'm being irrational in my Stacy concern.

So now that the suspension is upheld does Gordon have any keeper value? He would have keeper values of 7 then 11 in my auction league. And you'd obviously have to waste a roster spot all season. I say no.

No. I don't imagine he'll be in Cleveland next year either. He kinda dogged it all camp and I don't think they'll want to deal with it anymore. He may go to a better situation than Cleveland next year, but I don't think you can count on him actually doing anything because he's 1 mistake away from never playing again.
