Every stateside Cub minor league affiliate is within 1 game of playoff contention right now.

Boise losing tonight would put them in trouble, though.

I like it when the minor league threads go more than 2 pages. It means good things happened, in all likelihood.
I thought that same thing the other day, but it turned out to be several pages on Criminal Sexual Assault

ASB boredom.

Some of us may be criminals but none of us have sex.

I can't wait until we take the best college bat next year again.

speaking of this, who is that currently? Raisin?

Raisin graduated years ago.

From what I've seen, it looks like DJ Stewart (i think that's the right name) from Florida St. LF, power LH bat, iirc. big guy, but athletic for his size, from what i've read. If he's available at their pick, he's who I think they take (obviously way too much can happen b/w now and then, but making predictions is fun).

Still way too early but these are the only college bats who look top 10 worthy now:

LSU SS Alex Bregman

Florida St OF DJ Stewart

Cincinnati 2B Ian Happ

The more highly thought of bats are at the prep level - Daz Cameron and Brendan Rogers.

It's probably Alex Bregman. Another weak year, as of now, for college bats.

[expletive].

Bregman struggled this past season too, but he's getting a pass from most.(injury?) The guy Schmidt just mentioned is a hell of a hitter. But with Bregman being a SS, I think he'll be higher after the next season. There's a good 2B too, too lazy to look him up.

Edit-Happ, thanks Raisin

I know it's early but how far ahead are Cameron and Rogers ahead of the college guys?

Not far enough to cement themselves as absolute elite of the elite types. We're not looking at a Bryce Harper situation.

FYI... Ryan McNeil left the Boise game with an apparent injury.

Kiley McDaniel on the college bats at Team USA (rankings are amongst all college prospects eligible for the 2015 draft):

Hitter Group Is Talented But Lacks Elite Prospects Like 2015 Class

The hitter group also had a solid core of known prospects from my 2015 MLB Draft college rankings:

3. Alex Bregman, SS LSU

7. D.J. Stewart, LF, Florida State

9. Taylor Ward, C, Fresno State

13. Dansby Swanson, SS, Vanderbilt

19. Blake Trahan, SS, Louisiana Lafayette

28. Christin Stewart, LF, Tennessee

Bregman and Stewart continued their long track records of success and held their positions while Ward and Swanson probably will flip in the August re-rankings and Trahan and Stewart should maybe flip as well, but both have some things to work on. Cincinnati 2B Ian Happ is the only other elite college hitting prospect in the class right now and early reports on him from the Cape are neutral to negative. It's still very early, but the trend of disappointing college hitter classes is continuing, with scouts having trouble naming five prospects that look like first rounders right now.

Of the rest of the bats, only Mark Mathias (IF, Cal Poly) and Tate Matheny (OF, Missouri State) were 2015 prospects and both fit in the 3rd round or lower, but both are solid prospects. Swanson was the prospect that may have made the biggest impression, looking even better than when I saw him in a late-spring weekend series versus Florida.

Swanson is deceptively quick, consistently getting out of the box fast and turning in at least plus run times to first base, though he looks awkward at times. He's widened his stance since the spring and that seems to have helped his timing and leverage to create power. Swanson made a lot of contact in the games I saw, and leads the team in hitting, though the sample sizes are small. He has the pop in his bat for 12-15 homers a year, though Swanson could produce even more if his swing wasn't so geared for line drives from gap-to-gap.

Swanson played second base for Team USA and at Vanderbilt in deference to Bregman and Yankees' 2014 9th rounder Vince Conde, respectively. Swanson was considered one of the best defensive shortstops in the nation coming out of an Atlanta-area high school in 2011 and if Conde turns pro as expected, Swanson will get a chance to show his ability as Vanderbilt's regular shortstop this spring. While I and most other scouts haven't seen him play short anytime recently, he still appears to have to tools to be average at the position, which would make him another potential 2015 first rounder for Vanderbilt.

McDaniel has Happ at #2 amongst college prospects.

Yeah, that sounds like the type of prospect ceiling for Cameron and whatever the SS equivalent for that is for Rogers.

Corey Black last two outings: 13 innings, 10 hits, 1 run, 16/2 K/BB

Not getting enough attention (understandbly, I guess). But he's at AA, putting up great numbers. Over 9 K/9. Walks down to a manageable 3.75 per 9 in his last 10. .203 BAA. Doesn't give up many HRs at all. Healthy unlike the other talent at the AA level, meaning he'll likely hit the majors before Edwards and Johnson. He'd be easy top 10 in a normal system for me. Probably top 10 if the Cubs didn't get Russell or draft Schwarber.

I'd like to believe in Black, but there's just way too many walks right now to consider him a future SP. Those last two outings are great, but the previous 2 had 8 BB in 10.2 IP. He's doing a great job of K'ing guys though(see Aaron Sanchez, you can throw hard with control problems AND strike people out, amazing!).

Is that Arya Stark?

That is no one.

This post needs more attention. Exault!

Like I pointed out, it's been 3.75 in his last 10, despite 3 4-walk games in there. The huge control issues seem to be rarer than they used to be.
