  1. Eddy Julio with a HR for second consecutive night. Since all star break, these are his numbers (not counting tonight's 2-5 with a HR: .380 .415 .560 .975 He's making me pay attention, although he has to keep it up for more than 15 or so games.
  2. Seattle talk radio is perplexed and or flummoxed that the M's would have to give up such value to get a third-string catcher.
  3. After 5 games, Bryant is tied with Valbuena for 5th among 3b with .5 fWAR. That is all.
  4. i'm hoping they stay on the i-cubs through august so i can catch them all in tacoma
  5. From what I've seen, it looks like DJ Stewart (i think that's the right name) from Florida St. LF, power LH bat, iirc. big guy, but athletic for his size, from what i've read. If he's available at their pick, he's who I think they take (obviously way too much can happen b/w now and then, but making predictions is fun).
  6. I think Tim hit it with the first comment in that last post. I think they have developed their own set of criteria based on what they want, and that may well be very different from the general industry perspective. Every team does this to a degree, but I like the particular approach this FO takes. They seem to view a few traits as better investments, and pitchers mostly as lottery tickets (esp. HS pitchers), and they select those lottery ticket at lower leverage positions in the draft, where the return on investment can be higher and where it doesn't hurt nearly as much if/when TINSTAPP rears its ugly head.
  7. He made his 11th error in the game. It was his first since may 21, a game in which he hit his 12th HR. He now has 20. That's just amazing. Right now, i'm really intrigued to see whether they actually keep him at 3b.
  8. Found it! You were right, Raisin — it was Badler, from March 13, 2009. The article title was "Mining for Prospects in the DSL," and it was on the 42nd page of archived BA articles by Badler. Here's the link: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/mining-for-prospects-in-the-dsl-7777/
  9. Really? Great! I will renew my search with renewed vigor! I thought it was more stats-analysis based than I usually see in BA, though. Stupid crap memory. Thanks Raisin!
  10. I'm wondering if anyone here can help me in my effort to find an article on the Interwebs that I remember fuzzily but not well enough to locate via Google. It was an analysis (I want to say on BP, although my searches on that site haven't turned up anything) of DSL stats, looking back at the DSL numbers of established major leaguers, aimed at finding which stats were predictive of future success — in other words, which stats do you want to look at to tell which guys have the best chance to be something in the majors. For the life of me I can't remember much detail, other than a faint memory that plate discipline (good BB/K ratio for hitters) seemed to augur well. I can't remember the author's name. Anyone remember this, or know of anything similar? Any and all help is greatly appreciated in advance!
