Nevermind...for some reason I had it in my mind that CPatt K'd a lot more than that.

Damn different eras. 2004 cpatt would be a hell of a player (even without the crazy UZR) nowadays

And just think, he was on the back-burner as far as our top-tier prospects coming into this year (not by me, but by many mainstream types). Imagine when Bryant does what Bryant will do and assume Baez will be something in the neighborhood of his talent. Then you still have Soler - who I think/hope will be up here before either Baez/Bryant - Russell, Schwarbs, Almora, Vogelbach, McKinney, etc etc etc

Disgusting

I feel like Baez will be our bust. I have nothing to back that feeling.

Javy is not busting. He's going to be our best player for a decade and everyone else in MLB is going to hate him.

Him at CF makes thing lots more interesting and fun. Like Kyle, I believe he will make more contact because most baseball players end up doing just that during that age span. Him staying up the rest of the year is necessary.

I was telling my girlfriend the Cardinals fan the exact same thing last night. If he comes up and is good/great, every other team, especially the Cardinals and their play the game the right way BS, is going to hate him so much.

JJ Cooper of BA tweeted last night through his conversation with a Scout yesterday that Cubs need to continue to be patient with him. He's still learning / working on his approach at the plate. I trust our FO will be cautious and bring him up when he's ready.

I wonder when that scout had seen Javy play. Because he's made real strides during the course of this season.

kasper was on the radio and said he thought Alcantara would get sent down in favor of Barney.

The hell you say.

what i heard len say was that renteria couldn't just hand barney's job over to alcantara and maintain credibility with his players and that it's up to the FO to clear that roster crunch for him (this was in response to bernstein saying that they shouldn't be worrying about hurt feelings and should be doing what's best for the organization, period). i didn't hear him say anything about sending him down, but i admit i was only passively listening.

that makes no sense, barney has been back on the roster for days

There's only been 4 SP on the roster since Friday since one isn't needed until the 22nd, someone will have to go down in order for Wada/Hendricks/whoever to come up and take a rotation spot.

If they send Alcantara down for a week to let Barney play and ensure he or Bonifacio is gone by August 1st, it's not much of a big deal. If 8/1 rolls around and Bonifacio and Barney are with the MLB team and Alcantara is still in AAA, I'm going to be a bit miffed.

it's hard to retain credibility with players by playing a guy that is infinitely superior to the other? I know most players are meatballs but come on Len

len's argument was that it would look bad to the other players if a respected veteran teammate lost his job because he had a baby

which is a terrible argument but w/e

Absolutely. I think any "fair" message would be trumped by a message of "these guys coming up are badasses so you better be playing like you're roster spot depends on it". I'm not buying into the lazy Castro talk of last year at all, but I do wonder if knowing he is very replacable has focused him a touch. I'm not seeing the defensive mental lapses either this year.

tell the players that darwin lost his job because he [expletive] sucks, problem sovled

exactly. I understand if Barney was a solid everyday player and this would just be the teams way of dropping a contract and playing a younger player of somewhat equal value. But Barney has been a below average player for several yrs now and never was anything more than an okay regular 2nd baseman for 1 yr.

He's losing his job because he sucks at it. I hope he realizes that. If not, just DFA him.
