A look at how the Cubs' "Future Five" prospects are faring in the minor leagues:

Core four was ridiculous, but now future five is just silly and I hope they keep coming up with new ones. Six dudes swinging their big dicks?

Brett's descriptors are creepy. I wish he and his followers would really stop with the sparkle and sexy.

does anyone know if any org has ever had 3 of the top 6 prospects any any of the legit lists?

it was pretty cool having a bunch of top 100's going into this year, but the top end could be way more absurd after this year.

I used to enjoy following and reading Brett's stuff. I realize its mostly other writers articles that he just expands on, but the amount of content he posted was nice. Now...not sure what hes going for other than Parks' affection.

I highly doubt it. What the Cubs are doing is very rare for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is deliberately holding guys down and therefore not graduating them from prospect status.

The Dodgers used to do it for years. It's one of the reasons for the rule 5 draft.

Imagine the external pressure on these kids when the come up. I really hope they bring them up in groups to dilute the madness.

who have they really held down? Bryant? i mean, yeah, he's destroying every level, but he hasn't even been in professional baseball for a year.

mainly it's the combination of a smart front office having extremely high draft picks and devoting a huge percentage of assets (and money if you go back to soler) to the minors. and some luck with who has been available to them. but it's still pretty cool.

I think several front offices, historically, would have had Baez start with the team this year. And comparatively few of them would have been keeping Bryant and Baez down until 2015. Alcantara would probably also be up for several organizations that are so devoid of offensive ability.

The Cubs are operating under a mandate that is pretty much unprecedented in baseball for anybody but the occasional expansion team or actual small market franchise. They both have the money to sign guys like Soler but absolutely no pressure to win any games at the major league level (thus eliminating any thought of trading some of these guys for major league help and actually making it possible to trade even more major leaguers for prospects). Most front offices can't get away with this mindset. Therefore, I doubt it's something we've seen in the era where these lists have even been a thing people talked about.

I doubt many people had "legit" top 100 prospect lists in the 50's.

and then he gets defensive about it. Stop trying to start hashtags buddy, and stick to writing, which you're actually pretty good at.

Closest I could find -

Royals in 2011: 8. Hosmer, 9. Moustakas, 10. Myers

Rays in 2008: 2. Longoria, 10. Price, 15. McGee, 18. Davis

I saw a few instances of two on the top 5.

I think Alcantara would have been up if he were in some other orgs. KB and Javy both definitely would have. Is there another team that's as cautious as us? I get why and I'm fine with it. But it is frustrating at times obviously.

yeah, those systems were a couple that came to mind.

watch almora, soler, and schwarber keep raking and we end up with like 6 top 50 (alcantara graduating).

almora and soler top 25 or so (so 5 top 25). really doesn't seem all that far fetched.

any team that would've had javy up to start this year would've been wrong, though.

i don't see why baez would definitely have been up; he has an immature swing-from-the-heels approach and has traditionally struggled each time he is introduced to a new level.

You cannot make that judgement.

just think he's exactly the type of raw talent that needs all the development (within reason - i'm not saying leave him down there for years and years or anything) that the minors can offer.

Perchance they'd want him to get those struggles at the majors taken care of.

Frustrating, but probably good for a lot of guys other than Bryant. A lot of GMs will rush guys in an effort to see major league results and keep their jobs. This FO has complete job security, which is nice (but also has resulted in a long rebuilding process).
