all credit goes to davell for calling him the worst cub ever.

The one time I get to use the power and I used it on that [expletive]. I deserve mocking and scorn.

Screw it time to root for draft position

I think I sense optimism out of you. You really, really liked this trade, didn't you?

I did. For the same reasons I was meh on the Garza trade and still am.

Quantity sucks, pitchers suck. Elite hitting prospects are the best thing you can get.

This offseason is going to be different than any we've seen out of this FO. We're close now.

We'll see.

There's still plenty of downsides to going big.

a) They don't want to blow all their flexibility and have none in later years

b) They need pitching, and top free-agent pitchers are still bad value

c) If Bryant and Alcantara don't transition to the majors well, they won't get there regardless

d) They don't really have an excess of prospects to trade. It's not an excess until you are filled in well at the major leagues, which they aren't. There's still tons of holes.

They can afford to stay the course, keep their pile of assets intact and still see a massive increase in wins next year with a shot at contention but not going big until 2016.

I can see that. I do think they'll add a bigger name or two through FA. But yeah, I guess you're right. If we've got a general cap ceiling until renovation money helps out, we won't blow it all in one offseason.

Side note-I'm feeling pretty confident that the 15-20 mill we've saved for future uses is going to be gobbled up next July 2nd. And we'll spend regularly(100 mill or so) on regular ML payroll next year.

How are we going to get to 100M without making a couple of big moves?

Well, I said I expected 1 or 2. Spend 40 mill or so on 2 SP and an OF, maybe 2 if Ruggiano is dealt.
