I remember the days when this board would lose itself over a BJax RBI triple. :(

Speaking of BJax, why does he get less playing time in the OF than Vitters? Is he really that much less of a "prospect" than Vitters at this point?

I don't have the hitting #'s but when you see them, they are not pretty.

Other than last year, BJax has out OPSed Vitters at every level. Actually, 2012 too, but not by much. Plus, he's a better defender than Vitters.

They both suck but Jackson is a year older and doing a little worse this year. But it doesn't really matter. Because as I said, they both suck.

It wasn't long ago that Jackson, Vitters, and Szczur were our top 3 offensive prospects. Now they're roster filler. Which is more than can be said for the rest of the top 10 that Theo and Co. inherited.

Ummm, of the Jan. 2012 top 10, one is our starting catcher; one is a beloved top-10 overall prospect in AAA right now; one can't hit but has ... nope nevermind not gonna say anything good about Junior Lake; one is still a moderately not-hated prospect at Daytona. It's not earth-shattering, but it wasn't a complete whiff either.

Almora hit a triple today. Jeffrey Baez hit another HR and Jesse Hodges hit 2 HRs for Boise.

Soler played the whole game in RF, went 0/3 with a BB and a K. Gleyber Torres went 3/3 with a BB. Eloy Jimenez went 2/4 with that double.

Mark Malave grounded into a triple play.

A 5-4-3 triple play:

Boise Top of the 4th

Mark Zagunis walks.

Danny Canela walks. Mark Zagunis to 2nd.

Mark Malave grounds into a triple play, third baseman Shane Hoelscher to second baseman Sam Bumpers to first baseman Josh Fuentes. Mark Zagunis out at 3rd. Danny Canela out at 2nd.

19-year old RHP Oscar De La Cruz, who received an $85,000 bonus during the 2012-13 IFA season, has a 0.84 ERA with 28 Ks in 32 IP in the DSL.

I'm going off of the mlb.com 2011 list. #1 was Rizzo, who of course wasn't inherited by Theo. beyond that;

2&3 Brett and Szczur: if not roster filler, they're very close.

4. Carpenter: Japan?

5. McNutt: Suspended animation of some sort.

6. Vitters: Also essentially roster filler, although he's still got a year or two of the youngish for AAA defense.

7. Dolis somewhere in Giants system.

8. Jay Jackson somewhere in Indians system.

9-10. Golden and Simpson: out of baseball, or maybe in some indie league.

a) Don't do that. MLB.com before Callis arrived is worse than just a random generator spitting out minor leaguers' names.

b) Ignoring the 2011 draft is kinda dumb.

-an average-ish starting C

-a replacement level OF

-a current top-20 prospect

and maybe 2-3 other guys with any chance of contributing at the end of the roster

so, basically:

If you think a starter, a top-20 prospect and a few more interesting guys is a bare cupboard, then your standards are out of whack.

well i'm comparing them to other teams, and not to a hypothetical situation where we waived our right to make draft selections

i welcome you to total the pitcher fWAR we've received from that group, and i'd be surprised to see if it's replacement level (i'm taking the under)

I realize the crap I am going to get for being a Theo/this FO apologist for this, but I really think the changes in player development could have altered Javy's development track significantly.

He seems like exactly the type of player that would be hurt most by our old non-existent player development (and actively preaching aggressiveness - and not in the good selective way - at the plate).

If player development means anything at all, I think it has had a substantial impact on him.

Keep in mind, I'm talking about going from one extreme (really bad) to the other in that department.

They had Cashner, which was needed to get Rizzo. They had a very young Castro and Samardzija as well. They also had the trade pieces needed to acquire Wood.

There was no bare cupboard.

Whatever you want to claim about how the player development has improved Baez, he was a talent in the system when they arrived.

The apologists can't have their cake and eat it too.
