I think you're double counting his IBB, it's already included under BB if you're looking at BBRef. Not that it makes an appreciable difference, he's at a .725 OPS if my math isn't messed up.

League average OPS is about .760, to give a basic perspective. Not there yet, but a lot closer than he was. Iowa's actually the worst hitting team in the league (mostly due to park factors).

weird - I wasn't doing that, but I was using the stats at MiLB and they give me a different outcome than when I use fangraphs game data

After the game on 5/15 and prior to his 11 game hit streak, Javy had a slash line of 0.142/0.229/0.255/0.484

He's currently at: 0.225/0.287/0.437/0.725

I know it's being discussed in the gam thread, but I think Shark can be convinced to stay once he sees Javy and KB producing in the majors.

Man, I can't wait for Baez, Bryant, Rizzo and Castro to be hitting together.

That's one hell of a risk to take. And I don't think we're willing to pay him what he'd get on the open market which is what you'd have to do to sign him next summer or later

If we were willing to give Tanaka 6/120, surely we'd give it to Shark, if he pitched like an ace all year.

Born: November 1, 1988 in Itami, Hyogo, Japan (Age 25.206)

Born: January 23, 1985 in Merrillville, IN (Age 29.123)

And no, I don't buy the "Samardzija's arm is younger" thing.

Offset at least somewhat by, yes, Samardzija's previous workload, and by the fact that we've seen Samardzija be really good at the Major League level, which wasn't the case for Tanaka.

1213 professional innings in Japan for Tanaka

1042 professional innings for Shark

Why wouldn't that matter to you? His arm has basically the same mileage.

Aging curves apply regardless of the mileage on your arm.

I think there's a middle ground here.

Certainly, Shark is more attractive than the average 30 year old candidate because of it, but you can't whitewash his age because of his lighter workload either.

Because regardless of mileage, age is still a factor. He will no doubt be effective later than many pitchers are, but age will still catch up to him. I still say pay him, but you can't completely ignore the age.

Same here. Not the end all, be all. But I do think it matters.

I guess I've done a 180 here. I wanted Shark dealt over the offseason, maybe even as far back as the prior deadline. But there's just SOOOOO few guys out there.....The return had better be epic, if he's dealt.

I've come around to only really being excited about a Boston deal at this point -- if Betts is part of the package.

Still hoping for Gausman and Bundy myself.

I guess I wouldn't complain about that!

But Betts is just such a unique player. 7% K-rate while generating some pop, showing patience, stealing bases and capable of playing anywhere but the battery is pretty cool.

Has Bruno's injury been reported? He's been out for several days but I haven't seen anything about it - or I forgot.
