suspended indefinitely and $5m fine

What exactly is the consequence to an owner of suspension?

I just asked the same thing to some of my buddies. Does it just mean he's not allowed to games or NBA events? Is he not allowed in the offices/able to make day-to-day business decisions indefinitely? Not allowed to vote on anything?

I'd imagine it'd be similar to Marge Schott and George Steinbrenner, no?

Silver just said banned for life and a $2.5 mil fine. That sounds a little more extreme then "suspended indefinitely"

Yeah, that's significantly more.

Chances Sterling sues over this?

100%

That was my guess too. This could really drag on a long time.

The legal expert on ESPN.com said he has 0% chance of winning a lawsuit.

Yeah, as soon as keeping him around becomes a financial negative for the league I have to think that instantly removes any legal grounds for Sterling.

Good. But I can see an [expletive] like him just trying to drag [expletive] out as long as humanly possible.

Winning the lawsuit would not be the goal.

The legal expert on espn once said they would not have indicted the Duke Lacrosse team if they weren't sure they were guilty.

@LaurenceWHolmes

I was told today that Reinsdorf wanted to allow Silver to swing the hammer (which he did). I expect we will hear more from JR soon.

So old fashioned of him to graciously leak to friendly reporters that he was on the right side of this before the announcement.

That is what twitter is for these days.

You have to had it to silver he did everything he could do as commissioner and then pressured the owners to force a sale.

Personally I'm cynical and believe this was about PR and the harshest punishment possible was what the mobs demanded and clearly the popular move. But even so there was no mercy by Silver he went all out on this one.

Yeah he could have equivocated. But that press conference was harsh and to the point. I don't know if Silver always has that terse style, but it was perfect for this situation.

I agree with the punishment because he has documented findings of discrimination to go with multiple claims made that he is absolutely everything he seems like on the TMZ call in public situations (especially the baron Davis things and the Rollie mossimino thing). So in his official capacity as a business owner and nba owner he did these things and deserves the outcome.

However I will never be comfortable with te fact a private phone call was secretly recorded and sold. That's bs and a bad precedent.

You just, do I know? I support them and give them food, and clothes, and cars, and houses. Who gives it to them? Does someone else give it to them? Do I know that I have—Who makes the game? Do I make the game, or do they make the game? Is there 30 owners, that created the league?

have to feel bad for the Clippers players, all assuredly facing unemployment; who's going to make the game now?
