I'm actually one of the more positive guys toward the rebuild. But I was watching the Cards-Pirates game today, and when the Cards loaded the bases the fans all got up and started to cheer for a key moment in the game.

It made me realize we don't even have a chance to do that anymore, because none of these games or moments matter. And I did start getting bitter at ownership while watching it. They need to show big improvement next year. They have to.

Don't get your hopes up. One would think they'd try to improve this year. I was optimistic that they'd be better this but I'm not any longer.

I know this isn't right considering the Cubs have been popular forever and haven't won in a century, but I start to wonder if another horrid year, coupled with another horrid two months next year, would start to have a huge impact on the fan base coming out to games. Like, a very noticeable one. Not just the expected decrease.

I don't even know what I'm talking about. I hate the Brewers. I hate that the Cubs are so bad. I hate that the Brewers get to beat up on the Cubs 19 times a year and we just have to sit back and watch it happen.

I think we'll look back at 4/25 as the day we all stopped giving a [expletive] this year.

yeah, the 100th birthday game was definitely it for me. i'll check in occasionally, but i probably saw 90% of the innings this year up to that point. no more.

We would all get a major jolt if Baez did well in Triple A and came up and was exciting this summer. We'd start giving a crap again real quick. I think.

It made sense to me that they didn't want to spend big on anyone except Tanaka this past offseason, but with the top prospects on track to begin arriving at the end of this year and all the money they *should* have, they better go big this offseason.

I've been fine with the "suck hard until we're ready" strategy, because I was much more annoyed with the old, expensive crappy 2009-2011 teams than the teams the past couple years. But if this offseason resembles last offseason, that's just a "suck hard and hope for a miracle" strategy.

A team can rebuild without sucking this badly for 3 years in a row. As far as improvement next year, yeah I mean every season we think next year has to be better. At this rate, it isn't getting there. And given the ongoing delays with the renovations at Wrigley I think that timeline for attempting to be competitive is just being pushed back further and further.

100 percent agree. I actually found the last two years to be very tolerable for whatever reason.

But this one has worn on my so quickly that I'm starting to get bitter. I've never agreed with the 'Let's just spend money to spend money' thinking, but whatever it is they have to do this offseason to at make this team respectable in 2015, they damn well better do.

Exactly this for me, haven't watched an inning since that game. The double turd of that game plus the Sammy snub did it for me. This also has to be a record for me for earliest I start caring more about the Minors thread.

Like I said in my previous post, for whatever reason, I was fine with it the last two seasons. There was some crap we had to do to get this organization going in the right direction. But to almost feel like we suck even worse now than we did then is just not acceptable.

It's b/c the FO is obsessed with draft picks and that they are choosing to not be successful in the big FA market. This tells me it's a financial thing and the purse strings are really tight due to ownerships debt structure. Either way, it sucks to be a Cubs fan today more so than any time in history, as crazy as that sounds.

Have the Cubs ever been this far out of first (10.5 GB) on April 26th?

Well they were 10.5 GB on April 25, 1997 but then they won and gained a game on April 26.

Maybe it's because I'll never turn my back on Theo, but I won't blame him. I love him too much.

The people who hired him? Yeah, I'll put it all on them.

I understand what you are saying. I've attempted to take the same viewpoint but it isn't like they would have to start spending like the Yankees or Red Sox to get more competitive without sacrificing whatever principles they are following.

I don't really blame Theo & Jed, I don't think they anticipated things being this way.

Just wait to see how bad they'll suck this year when they trade Samardzija and Hammel.

That's what scares me. I feel if Theo and Jed had to do it over again, they'd pass given what they know now. Very bad times indeed.
