I do not have much faith in the Cubs pitching. I think the beginning of the year will be a disaster leading to the Cubs calling up the youngsters and trading Shark. The youngsters will play rather well leading to numerous victories after the wins do not mean anything.

I have faith that the Cubs will be in line for two more good draft (this June's and next.)

I do like what I see on the horizon however. If a few more losing years leads to what I think it can, then I can be patient.

I feel like this team is better than last year's. That ain't saying much, but I think they will flirt with .500 most of the year and settle with 78 wins.

Starters perform better than expected, and the bullpen proves to be a strength. The anemic offense results in a lot of close losses.

*Everything goes right offensely for the entire infield.

*They extend Shark rather than trade him. Instead they trade Castro not because he's bad but to make room for Baez.

*They also trade someone from the Lake/Soler/Almora group for the pitcher they need to make a run.

If they want to get a pitcher to make this dream sequence a reality, they have to give up something and they can get someone better if they include Castro.

I'm sure you probably didn't mean it that way, but when you say "include Castro", it seems to suggest Castro as a part of a package for a pitcher, and well ... if Castro is good, he, by himself, should net that pitcher. A good Castro should be able to get us at least a good, young starting arm (theoretically), and more.

Rizzo will suck .225/.300

Olt will suffer a season long torment of hamstring and shoulder issues

Samardizja will need TJ

Baez won't sniff the majors

Castro and Barney will start the season on a tear, birth hitting around .305/.360 at all star prompting Theo to trade off Rizzo, Olt and Baez. In the offseason, the Cardinals and White Sox will sign the three where they all go on to hall of game careers, Rizzo and Olt in StL and Baez on the south side.

It's the forking Cobs. Let's be honest with ourselves here people.

70. castro is good, rizzo is good, olt is not. shark gets traded for minor leaguers in june. baez doesn't come up until late august (and is the most exciting .280 obp player any of us have ever seen)

was hoping to find i had correctly guessed 73, but i'll still mark this down as a success

That was pretty close except Rizzo was better than just good and Baez was a .225 OBP player that was not particularly exciting after his few few weeks.

I'll go with 78 or so.

Rizzo will break out, Castro will have a decent bounce-back, Olt will prove to be useful, and Baez will come up in June or July or so and replace Barney's automatic outs with an .800 OPS.

right about rizzo and castro, wrong about olt LOL and baez. that probably makes up the 5 game difference lol

I forgot to mention that Jackson will surprise with a better than just a bounce back from last year season.

this was not an accurate prediction.

he was throwing a change in spring that looked nasty the last time i saw him before i posted this

i don't recall seeing much of it this year. that and he just sucked.
