Any truth to the rumor that the Cubs had the wrong scoreboard installed at Cubs Park?

 

On the radio they were saying that the Cubs had told the contractor to go Salt River Fields and duplicate their state of the art scoreboard while putting a replica clock on top like at Wrigley. Instead, he went to Scottsdale stadium and duplicated that one...

So their construction plans involved telling the contractor to go to another stadium and copy their scoreboard and then just going away until he was done. No photo comparisons involved? No confirmation about the plans?

I find that hard to believe. And I thought the design was supposed to be somewhat old timey mixed with modern, which is what they have.

The finished product sure looks more like "Salt River with a clock on top" than the Scottsdale scoreboard.

I'm pretty sure that scoreboard rumor is complete BS. Someone in the Cubs organization would have to approve the scoreboard design before they built it and installed it.

 

Also the bottom of the Cubs Park scoreboard is meant to invoke Wrigley's scoreboard as opposed to Scottsdale's.

Somebody needs to zoom in on Crane and Ricketts, who look extremely similar there. Are they one and the same? Did Crane just invent this Ricketts persona in order to buyout the Cubs from the Tribune?
