I know Grimm had said he had been told to prepare as a starter....on the other hand they signed Hammel and it seemed Arrieta was being penciled in to the last spot, so I sure don't see it as one.

Theo also reiterated that they spent all they had available to them the last 2 years, but did not do so this offseason, and that the remainder could be used in-season or rolled into future seasons.

With what he showed last year, I think Grimm could be a top relief pitcher. I love this bullpen. I am a little surprised they're giving up on starting him though with Arrieta out.

It looks like he's on one of those non-guaranteed (but really guaranteed unless you can prove you cut him for baseball reasons) contracts that pre-FA guys get. Like Ian Stewart last year.
