I thought Marinelli was already announced to TB

I thought it was just reported that it was the plan.

I've been sick for three days though so maybe I imagined it.

Sounds like everyone is waiting to hear if Dallas will block it. Doesn't seem to be much doubt that Lovie would like to bring him over.

Also, I am so glad that the people running the team are so much smarter than the local media and fan base.

They sure give your money's worth on these pressers, that's for sure.

I don't see anything official, but all reports are that it is done.

One thing somewhat ignored was the implicit statement to McCown, "Sure, go ahead and find a big contract on the open market." They know his success was completely about time and place. If somebody wants to pay him, let them do it.

Did I hear a diabeetus in there from a reporter?

You guys know me. You know I love Cutler. I want him on the Bears for the long-term, and certainly have campaigned that he be a part of the 2014 team. But that being said, I would not have signed him to this contract, yet. I would have franchised him and let him earn the big payday. Granted, I think he would have earned that this year, but he did miss 5 games and parts of 2 others, the 2nd time in 3 years he's missed a handful of games.

I'm guessing the cap hit for 2014 is significantly less than the 16.2 or whatever franchise number. That doesn't mean I'm unhappy whatsoever at this deal, but I just think it could have waited a little. Not like the Bears were in danger of salaries greatly being inflated to where he would outplay this deal.

Whoa. Is that Rick Morrisey calling out Jay for having diabetes?

I think it was Wilford Brimley

That's a new low, even for Chicago sports media.

There's a value in not having to listen to the same contract BS for a second straight year, though.

When i saw the 7 year deal for jay cutler i thought it was a joke. ultimately, it will be one. #dabears

This guy is a professional sportswriter and doesn't understand guaranteed money.

No, it isn't. The 7 years by itself is pretty meaningless, but I'd be surprised if that isn't a sign that the money is pretty huge as well. If the Schefter tweet turns out to be accurate, that would probably leave the Bears stuck in the 15th-23rd best QB situation overall (taking into account play and contract) in the league for the next few years. Of course, if they got rid of him, there would be no guarantee that they would get someone better.

FWIW, I think it was Dickerson yesterday said that he felt strongly that Cutler, Jennings and Slauson would be back. He also said Tillman, Melton, Peppers and Wright would NOT be back.

@AdamSchefter

Cutlers Neighborhood: RT @brian_mcintyre: Five notable QB extensions in '13 were Ryan, Flacco, Rodgers, Romo & Brady. Avg guarantee: $55.2M

Telander is an absolute asshat anyway; this is not surprising.

Efficiency is worth only so much when the other available options are so terrible, and nobody in the draft is going to help them for 2-3 years.

I really do hope they can get Tillman back on a discount.

Telander is the guy who got scared by Kreutz in the locker room and wrote a column about it.
