That really seems like a lot of money for a kicker. Especially given the needs elsewhere on the team.

I would think some of it counts against this year's cap and its spread really thin over the duration of the deal. It also locks up the best Kicker in the league. Not a horrible signing....

Only 1.5 left on this years cap, so not much. It can't spread really thin considering how big of a contract it is. Especially for a kicker.

Forte and Marshall are the only Bears pro-bowlers

Discussed on the last page.

Only 5 Pro Bowlers for the entire NFC north. 2 in Chicago and Detroit and 1 for Minnesota, 0 for Green Bay

Couple of interesting blurbs from ESPNChicago:

-- CSNChicago.com’s John Mullin explains that Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker isn’t alone in his struggles. Some of the game’s top defensive masterminds are directing units which haven’t lived up to expectations.

Mullin writes: "If coordinator Mel Tucker is the problem behind the decline and fall of the Bears' defense from 2012 to 2013, then this season has to rank as an all-timer for 'problem' coordinators who suddenly got bad or stupid."

-- Roster upheaval is imminent, writes Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune. Several players have contracts set to expire, and the team isn’t inclined to bring many of them back based on their performance, their age and other factors.

I don't think the defense has struggled in a manner that indicates Tucker should be let go. They are getting blown off the line on running plays and have rookie LB's and safeties who don't support the run very well. This is a talent issue, not a scheme issue.

Which dovetails nicely with the second blurb - some of these guys on D are done or plain suck (Conte and Wright, for example). There needs to be some major change in terms of personnel.

If Tucker is retained, I hope he runs the defense he knows instead of trying to make the personnel fit.

I'd rather just get Rex Ryan.

Definitely. If an elite DC candidate is available, I'm obviously all for him.

Word is Rex will be back in NY as they try to get him more talent. I'm also guessing Tucker will be back and will be allowed to run his own scheme. I think Emery has cited the lack of continuity with the offensive side of the ball (bunch of different coordinators under Lovie). S o I don't think he wants to turn over the DC this quickly, especially when the DC hasn't run his scheme or had his pick of players to fit his scheme.

I'd take Rex in a second over Tucker, but I doubt that he and Trestman are a personality match.

What scheme does Tucker run exactly? I'm just curious cuz the Jags defense in his tenure were umm... forgettable. I have no clue what kind of defense he likes to play.

I am going to apologize in advance for liking the Bears. It's going to be a very rough day and rest of sports life in general.

Relax. The Bears are going to win, and it will only be sort of competitive. Like 34-20ish.

That would be nice for the defense to allow the least amount of points this season in such a crucial game. Especially after averaging 35.6 points allowed the last 5 weeks.

You can't ever relax as a Bears fan with Rodgers on the field. Especially with this defense.

Our defense giving up 20ish points tomorrow would be the shock of the century.

I hate Twitter. Because of it I learned today that Rodgers has the second best winning percentage against the bears ever, Cutler has the lowest winning percentage against the packers, and Rodgers has the highest QBR in December/January of any QB in history.

Please tell me Joe Buck is not on cue for this game.

Also, I'm lying.

Thankful I'm getting the San Fran game here and have to go to a bar with no volume for the Bears.
