It is illegal though to bat the ball forward out of bounds to improve field position though, regardless if possession is established or not, right?

Yes, so it should have been Pittsburgh ball, with a penalty taking them back 15 yards from the spot it was batted.

Yeah, not saying the refs got it right, but there definitely was a penalty. They just fucked up what the penalty was.

I suppose an argument could be made that it should be 4th down again for Green Bay, but the field goal was blocked before all of this other nonsense took place. Possession should have changed. Assess how ever much yardage for a penalty as you must for the illegal batting of the ball, but that the officials gave Green Bay a first down at the 2 yard line is unbelievable.

Calls like this just shouldn't be happening anymore. The entire point of replay is to make sure the right calls are being made. Maybe a different colored flag needs to be created for HC's to challenge ridiculous rulings on the field like this one. The officials were making an incorrect call on the field and Tomlin couldn't make any argument to possibly get the correct call made.

I feel like I can go back to any week this year and find calls that weren't just bad judgement -- they are just wrong on the actual rules, or missing something so obvious that you wonder how it's possible.

It just seems like the officiating in this league is going backwards. I don't know what the solution is, but I hate when things like that happen and it just never ends.

Also, that Arizona interception was awful peculiar yesterday. I've never seen a ball carom off of a guy's forearm as far as that one did if it honestly never touched the ground, as it was ruled on the field. Dude must have forearms of steel. On first view, I thought it hit someone's shoe to get that affect.

Carolina drafted Newton first overall for games like this, and he's failing them miserably today.

Interesting but not too surprising: Just got stiffed at Panther camp by Cam Newton. Chose not to talk to me post-evening practice.

King is getting killed today. He was perhaps a bit hyperbolic, but Cam was pretty much [expletive] for 59 minutes in the biggest game of his life (and if Carolina had lost their playoff hopes would be on life support now as they would lose any tiebreaker to Arizona). I didn't have any problem with what he said.

I'm shocked you guys won that game on the last drive. I remember looking at Cam's facial expressions on that drive and thinking how pissed I'd be if I was a Panthers fan because he looked either confused or looked flippant about the situation he was in. Guess I was wrong.

He rarely changes his facial expression much on the field outside of celebrations this year, I have noticed. I didn't read too much into how he looked. But after the previous few drives, to see him suddenly locked in, making great throws and standing tall in a collapsing pocket was a spectacular sight.

Jesus, other people talk about the facial expressions of QBs too?

I'm coming for Skip Bayless's job, he'd better watch his back.

In all seriousness, that touchdown pass was a godawful throw.

Not really.

You don't think so? He was flat-footed and it required Hixon to make a pretty special catch.

Low and away from the defender. It could have been up a little bit, but any decent WR makes that catch.
