By the way, besides ditching programs after a season or two, Todd Graham also put running back DJ Foster back in the game with a jacked up/probably torn knee.

Pretty awesome that the Pac-12 is generally considered the second best conference and will only get one BCS team, while their 4th place team (a top 20 team will get to go to scenic El Paso for their bowl game.

The Pac 12's problem is that their top teams all have losses to mediocre teams. Stanford lost to Utah. Oregon lost to AZ. ASU lost to ND. UCLA is the only one in the top 4 without a "bad" loss, but they couldn't beat any of the other top teams in the conference.

So they all stumbled against one mediocre opponent and ended up with 2 or 3 losses. I guess that sucks for the Pac 12, but hard to feel too badly for them.

Why does the Sugar pick Oklahoma over Oregon? I'm guessing most people would rather see Bama play Oregon.

Because Oklahoma will travel better.

I literally cannot believe that the MSU team I watched in ND Stadium in September didn't lose again. I know their schedule was weak until Ohio State, but that's a really good coaching job by Dantonio.

I can't believe they didn't do their typical 2nd half (of the season) collapse

I think if they would have started with Cook at the beginning of the season they would not have lost to ND. Also the 2nd half collapse has not been a thing for at least 5 yrs

Month and a half? The game is less than a full month away (Jan 6)

Cool. It seems like lately it has been after the 10th. A month off is still harder on the offense then defense.

What TT said, and also after this season the Sugar becomes an SEC/B12 property. Business relationships always trump intriguing matchups in the BCS.

Cool. It seems like lately it has been after the 10th. A month off is still harder on the offense then defense.

Is there some evidence of this? A month gives the offense a lot of time to tweak and mess around and install new ripples. That makes it harder on the defense to know what's coming.

I'm anxious to see the over/under on Auburn/FSU.

I think I would take the under. Month and a half off is hard on the offense.

The time off will hurt an offense like Auburn that relies heavily on timing. I would like to think that our offense will take some time to gel, but not quite as much since it's more balanced.

But I would take the under because the FSU defense is pretty freaking good. We're giving up an average of 10ppg, and it's really only that high because we gave up points to BC, and we've played our 2nd/3rd string defense for a lot of the season (and they gave up a bunch of points).

Not to take anything away from FSU, but Clemson is the only good offensive team they've played, and there's nothing comparable to what Auburn is doing right now. I'm fully expecting a 38-34 type game.

I couldnt find the history of the over/unders. Just looking at the scores I would think that the game probably did go over more often than under. So I was probably wrong.

Last year there were 15 Overs, 19 Unders, and 1 Tie.

I wouldn't say either FSU or AU has a good defense. Should at least be fun to watch.

Why do you say FSU doesn't have a good defense? Statistically, they've been very good. And watching them, they pass the eye test.

I watched a few of their games and didn't come away overly impressed by the defense. Then again, maybe I was just wildly unimpressed by the level of competition and that clouded my judgment.

The only reason no one is talking about how piss poor FSU's schedule was is b/c they blew everyone out. Until yesterday, they faced 1 good team all year (Clemson) and Miami (which had 9 wins, but lord help me if I can figure out how). As with Mizzou yesterday, I think FSU's per game average is going to rise a touch after the Auburn game.

theoretically, 3-3-5 is the best bet at stopping the spread

I dont think Auburn runs a true spread though. I almost think the best way to stop them would be like Stanford does against Oregon. Stay in your base and take away the run. But Stanford also has very good linebackers who make quick reads and take good angles.

FSU's schedule sucked, but the amount of scoring that offense did put the defense on the field a lot, and they still only gave up 10 pts a game. Auburn will definitely score more than the average team, but I've been impressed with FSU's d, what little I've seen of it.

Are there reliable advanced defensive metrics for football? I'd be curious to see where they place FSU's D.

This site, for example, rates them very well, but I have no idea if their methods are trustworthy.

They sure stifled Bethune-Cookman's attack. No one in the MEAC could say that, so maybe FSU is pretty solid.
