If Mizzou and USC both win their games this weekend South Carolina will get the second SEC BCS slot, assumign Bama is able to smash Auburn and then Mizzou.

The final scores of both games would make a big difference, but I think Auburn and South Carolina would be very close to each other for that 2nd spot. I can't remember the obligation of the bowls when it comes to the standings, but if they can the Sugar might pick Auburn anyways even if USC was slightly in front in the standings.

I understand why LSU or aTm would get the Cotton Bowl, but don't like it. It would be majorly depressing if Missouri puts together one of their best seasons and winds up playing Duke or some other ACC also-ran in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

maybe im biased here but does Auburn have a greater level of national interest than USC? Both fanbases will travel enough for that aspect to be a wash and Clowney being a top pick and national storyline I might choose to invite USC.

Also, Auburn is hosting gameday this week and the ratings for this Iron Bowl are going to be enormous. Lots of people are going to watch Bama decimate Auburn. Conversly, if USC Clemson goes the gamecock's way, than Id think USC would be a good Suger Bowl Matchup at #4 or #5 in the BCS after passing up Stanford, Baylor, Mizzou, Clemson and maybe Auburn and maybe Ok St.

It's going to be a massacre in Ann Arbor this weekend. We can only hope for terrible conditions. Is the season over yet?

All these bowl ties for other conferences make me it obvious how shitty the Pac-12's bowl ties are.

The winner of the UCLA/USC, as the Pac-12 #4 (and likely a top-20 team), will be going to El Paso. The loser will be going to Las Vegas.

Are you going to the game? I was noodling around on StubHub and some of the worst seats in all of college football are going for $200+ a piece.

I also remain frustrated at the overrating of Stanford and Oregon. Stanford's two decent wins are looking worse and worse and Oregon, who has not beaten a good team, just lost by 4 touchdowns to Richrod.

ND is now, perfhaps for the first time in the school's history, underrated. I expect ND to give Stanford everything they can handle and at the very least cover the line.

Haha, no. I avoid all road games.

It hinges on USC winning their game against Clemson and a few other games going their way (Alabama beating Auburn, Mizzou beating A&M, and Alabama beating Mizzou in the SECCG next weekend), but I really hope they can make it to the Sugar Bowl. If I had to choose one, I'd rather watch them play in the Sugar Bowl than the SECCG. I don't want to watch them lose the SECCG to Alabama and then play in the Outback Bowl for the 5th time since 2001.

I think AU makes a game of it and then gets selected for the Sugar. I'm prepared to travel for the Sugar (short trip for me) or to Pasadena.

Oh boy enjoy that big-time matchup against Central Florida.

Could be worse. The Big 12 winner is going to get stuck playing either Fresno State or Northern Illinois.

bowl tie-ins suck balls

proceed

Agreed. I understand it's nice for the big conferences to have that guaranteed revenue, but it does get pretty old after a while. If you're a fan of, say, Michigan State, what would be your incentive to go to Tampa or Orlando or Jacksonville year after year for the Outback, Gator, or Capital One bowls? Wouldn't it be cool to get a chance to go to the Cotton Bowl or Holiday Bowl or something every once in a while?

With the new playoff, I think there is a "2nd tier" list of bowls that will have available picking for all teams, but it would be so much more awesome if the whole thing was just a straight up pecking order of bowls with the 2 next best teams outside of the playoff/BCS.

So, lets say that the top 12 teams are in playoff/major bowls and then the Chick Fil A bowl gets the 2 next best teams and so on and so forth. The games would be so much better and it would then probably kill the lowest 2-5 bowls, which would be a good thing.

However, this will never happen because $$$$$ is really the only reason for these bowls to exist and by not allowing them to select regionally friendly teams over more deserving ones, the system won't generate enough revenue.

yep. pre-playoff, the best system would have been 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6, and so on. But nope, "tradition" ruins everything (as usual)

It's pretty well known at this point that the non-semifinal major bowls are going to more or less operate this way. There will still be tie-ins, but the committee will place the qualifying teams into what should be attractive matchups. So we'll have that going for us at least.

So no more Big 10 vs. Pac 12 in the Rose Bowl?

Yes, still B1G/Pac-12 in the Rose Bowl, but the selection order has been scrapped and the tie-ins have largely been widened (Orange, for instance, is now ACC vs SEC/B1G/Notre Dame depending on who is ranked highest). I can't really explain it well, so here is Stewart Mandel's projection for what the non-semifinal bowls would look like if they had the playoff this year:

Orange: No. 5 Missouri (SEC/Big Ten/Notre Dame) vs. No. 6 Clemson (ACC replacement)

Cotton: No. 7 Oklahoma State (displaced Big 12 champ) vs. No. 11 Michigan State (at-large)

Fiesta: No. 8 Stanford (displaced Pac-12 champ) vs. No. 9 Baylor (at-large)

Chick-fil-A: No. 10 South Carolina (at-large) vs. No. 14 Northern Illinois (Group of Five)

Basically, the new system will use the tie-ins to create the best matchup in the non-semifinal bowls, as opposed to giving the bowls a selection order and the ability to pass over better teams for 'better draws'.

Ok, that's a lot better than it has been in the past, particularly for the at-large/group of 5 teams.

Sure you want it to end? Peppers is apparently going to take visits after the season.

At least you don't have to worry about recruiting. Peppers is solid. No way he'll take those visits he said he'll take and risk losing his offer from Michigan, per Hoke's ironclad "commits can't take other visits" policy.

Hey, at least you're not a fan of a UCLA program that's about to completely bungle their best opportunity to close the gap with USC.
