Look at it this way (I picked ND b/c I had the info at hand):

ND's opponent's total number of victories: 82 (and ND's wasn't even the hardest schedule; Temple and Air Force each had 2 wins)

MSU's opponent's total number of victories: 60 (including MVC-team Youngstown State's 8 wins).

Auburn's opponent's total number of victories: 74 (including 7 from W Carolina and Florida Atlantic)

As an FSU fan, I would prefer to play Auburn. Whether it's admitted by the majority of the media or not, until someone directly beats a SEC team in the BCS game, there will always be doubt amongst them over who the best team was that year.

But, on the other hand, Ohio State has gone undefeated. If they beat MSU, they are one of two deserving teams from major conferences to make it this far into the year undefeated. No one from the SEC, AAC, B12, or P12 can make that argument. It's not a great schedule, but then again, it's very difficult to get a group of 85 kids between the ages of 18-24 to focus for 14 straight weeks and win all of their games.

So OSU should get the opportunity if they can beat MSU, plain and simple. We all know what the rules were going into this season, and winning all of your games (most likely) would get you into the BCS Championship Game. OSU won their games, so they are as deserving as anyone else.

Oh, and I realize that we have to beat Duke to get there. I'm somewhat overlooking them, but they play right into our strength, and I can't see us doing any worse against them than we did against UF.

I don't think MSU deserves to go to the championship game btw. I am just saying that I do not think Auburn is deserving either. Why is LSU better than ND? Without looking it up I would think that ND has more quality wins. MSU lost to ND when they were still dicking around with Maxwell at QB. Auburn should have lost to a not very good Georgia team. MSU really had no other game that they were close to losing. I know they have not blown teams out but they have usually won handily in games that they were really dominating at the end. And honestly I do not think Auburn is a better team then MSU. I know that may be a homer statement, but I think I am usually rational about this kind of stuff. I think MSU biggest downfall is they played the 3 worst teams in the other B1G division. If they played Wisky or OSU, they could have won and would look a lot better at this point. If they lost, they still would be in almost the exact spot they are right now except a few notches lower in the polls

Like I said in my previous post, if it was my vote Alabama would still be number 2. I think MSU/OSU is going to be a great game and I like MSU's chances. If Auburn/Missouri winner plays FSU, I think FSU wins convincingly. If FSU plays OSU, FSU wins convincingly. If FSU plays Alabama...good game that I think favors FSU at this point.

Bama may well be the second best team (or even the first). But they (Saban) screwed up. Someone else has to get a chance. It's going to be OSU or the winner of the SEC title. Hard to argue that another team deserves a shot more than any of those 3 (though OSU's schedule is putrid).

But MSU doesn't have an argument. In addition to having a bad loss to a mediocre ND team, they have no quality wins. (Jesus, is ND the best team MSU played? I think they might be.) They beat a handful of 8-win teams that feasted on crap teams to get those wins (look at the schedules for Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota and find a single quality victory). And they played 5 absolutely brutally bad teams. Western Michigan and USF have 3 wins between them. Purdue had just 1 win. Illinois got all the way to 4, but the only game they won in conference was against Purdue. Then they played Missouri Valley Conference 3rd place finisher, Youngstown State.

Sorry, you play that [expletive] schedule and you have to win all your games. You don't get to complain about being left out for having "only" 1 loss.

I think I started my comment by saying that MSU does not deserve to play in the BCS championship game.

But someone has to play in the game, right? Two teams, in fact. So if FSU wins, they're clearly in. Who else is? If MSU beats OSU and Auburn beats Mizzou, then who should play in the game? You really think Bama should get another title game again after not making the SEC conf championship game (and even though they lost their last game)? Okie St?

In that scenario, it would definitely be Auburn who's picked, although IMO they would be the weakest SEC team in a title game so far. FSU vs. Auburn would be a fun game to watch.

What's interesting to me is if Mizzou beats Auburn (very possible) and Ohio St loses. Missouri or Bama?

Bama is currently ahead of Mizzou by a razor thin margin, so it would take very, very extreme circumstances(Auburn forfeit, Mizzou's team bus crashing) for it not to be Mizzou/FSU in that situation.

Yeah it's Missouri. Bama gets hurt a little in the computers because Auburn looks a little worse. Missouri looks better because they have a win over a top-10 team that gets factored in. The only way it happens is if a ton of pollsters drop Missouri for no reason and boost Bama up.

FSU is going to beat Duke about the same way Texas beat Colorado in 2005. Maybe not that bad, but it will be close.

NUN, I'm really confused how you can say MSU = Auburn while holding the opinion that Bama deserves to go the title game.

Not to go all Meph, but I do not think that a team beating another team once on some Saturday makes them better. That is really the flaw in the system. Heck if Auburn would have beaten Alabama in October and then lost to LSU this past Saturday, Alabama would probably be ranked ahead of them. I understand that is how the system works and has worked in the past, just saying that it is flawed. I think the BCS championship game will probably not get the 2 best teams this yr, that is really my point

If Bama had worn Mississippi State jerseys(not the hideous Egg Bowl ones) all year, you wouldn't think that even with the same results. Bama's "style points"(which can be attributed as much to SOS as team quality) shouldn't matter any more than OSU's record last year.

Bottom line, until we play college football from August to May, there's not going to be enough games to make clear enough judgments to cast aside W/L like that. It's no surprise that the Top 10 in the BCS is basically putting the teams into tiers for number of losses and sorting by SOS.

Or perceived SOS/overall conf strength.
