Jurickson Profar is out for 10-12 weeks. Think they would take Barney or Valbuena?

And apparently Andrus has a sore right arm, though I don't think it's supposed to be serious. Seems like they could definitely use Barney. I doubt they bring up Odor, and I don't see many internal options for them.

They might be a little gun shy about dealing with Theo again after the last 2 trade deadline deals we've made with them. Especially after their GM pretty much admitted to being short sighted and getting taken advantage of in the Garza deal.

That's fine, just get rid of Barney and take cash

That's my thought. How is Valbuena at 2nd? I'd be ok with him there if he is even mediocre.

If they need middle infield help, Daniels probably has enough confidence in himself to make a deal work.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Ian Desmond rejected an offer from the Nationals of a multi-year contract extension worth a reported $90 million.

The offer was believed to be for up to seven years, which would have covered the last two years of Desmond's arbitration and five years on the open market. While it's unknown why he turned down the offer, Heyman notes that he could be seeking something closer to the eight-year $120 million that Elvis Andrus received from the Rangers.

I still maintain that Andrus contract is awful

Probably a smart move, either he's gone in about 6-8 months to another city or he's getting PAID to stay here and he'll be looking for an upgrade anyways.

After losing Geo Soto to injury. Texas taking hard look at Cub catcher George Kottaras .

Wasn't there an out-of-nowhere rumor today that one of the crummy third catchers was making the team?

Instead of jersey numbers, we ought to put price stickers on their backs like a garage sale.

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that the Rangers have been scouting the Cubs' infielders in recent days.

Sullivan notes that the Rangers appear most interested in Darwin Barney, something that Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times has also reported. Donnie Murphy and Luis Valbuena could also potentially be looked at as Texas pursues potential replacements for Jurickson Profar (shoulder). Additionally, Sullivan lists Ronny Cedeno, Kevin Frandsen and Cesar Izturis as possible veteran options.

Sounds like they really like Barney and they could use the catching depth, too. This does come a day or two after Daniels basically said he has nightmares over the Garza trade, so I don't think we take him for a ride again.

I'd rather have Kotteras as the backup C, obviously. John Baker had a nice start to his career but that was like 5 years ago and he's basically been Koyie Hill since.

I'm curious what we reasonably could get from the Rangers in return for Barney/Kotteras.

Oh no....please don't make me watch that 2 times a week.

Also, I apologize for slacking in my duties here. What I meant to say was "What do they need Kottaras for, they have Chirinos under team control through 2018!"

Didn't see that coming. I could be worng, but I don't believe that there is another catcher on the 40 man roster. Baker or Whiteside to be added, I would guess.

There is not one currently.

Why on earth would they do that? Even if for some reason they thought he wasn't the guy for the backup job, Iowa's catcher is who? Flores?

i think we really need to hope that kottaras is broken or something, because otherwise this looks like the worst case of poortomricketts to date
